Destination ARTS!” Gallery Events – Thursday, December 11 – Sunday, December 14 with “A Friday Night Block Party”

destination-arts-poster-small1“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events, live music and holiday-themed attractions at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op (gift registries available at these three locations), The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery.

Donna Bingaman 5 400Marjorie TresslerTo start the week, Marjorie Tressler and Donna Bingaman will both be providing painting demonstrations for members of the community to enjoy. Tressler’s turn comes on Thursday, when her talents will be on display starting at 1:00 in Gallery 50. Bingaman’s work with oil can be witnessed at 42 West ARTS Co-Op from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Friday Evening – A Holiday Block Party

WineDoneA “Holiday Block Party” is planned in downtown Waynesboro on Friday night, with the galleries set to feature a variety of activities in addition to the regularly scheduled “Wine Down Friday” receptions.

Gallery 50

PSIBookCoverPSIRoundTableA group of authors associated with the Antietam Historical Association will be at Gallery 50 on Friday night. Released this week, The Proceedings of the Potomac Street Irregulars includes discussions of crimes committed in the Waynesboro area throughout the years, including Gerard Peabody’s bank robbery spree in 1939, the Revolutionary War-era Shockey counterfeiters and the unsolved murder of Betty Jane Kennedy in 1946.

The book was edited by T.A. Dorsett and contains contributions from Frank Bock, Sue Lee, Michael Logan, Jim Shockey and Timothy Shockey. On Friday night, the group will meet with visitors and sign copies of their publication between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00.Nick Andrew Staver2

Wine and light refreshments will be available, and Gettysburg’s Nick Andrew Staver will provide the evening’s music. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Staver describes each of his performances as “an intimate opportunity to capture a desired dose of rhythm and blues mixed into modern songwriting storylines.”

Cynthia Marie & Tim Franklin400Over at Gallery 20 East, Tim Franklin and Cynthia Marie can be heard beginning at 5:30. The duo met in Seattle, but their chamber folk melodies have become popular with the people of Waynesboro during previous appearances as part of “Destination ARTS!”

42 West ARTS Co-Op

Patric SchleeeSantaIn addition to the wine and food, Santa Claus will be at the reception planned at 42 West ARTS. Members of the co-op will celebrate their one-year anniversary on Main Street with a Christmas Party between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded, and Patric Schlee will play the flute and drums.

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

Brad Munn (1)CSBeerMugThe potters at The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro would like to purchase a gas kiln for their building, and they’ll offer an opportunity for people to help them fulfill that mission at a fundraising event on Friday night. Beer and wine will be served, and for a cost of $25, guests can enjoy their beverage in a handmade souvenir mug created at the center.

Brad Munn’s guitar, fiddle and vocals will serve as the soundtrack for the evening.

42 West ARTS Co-Op

Barb PeshkinCalligraphy specialist, Barb Peshkin, will be making medieval-style bound journals at 42 West ARTS Co-Op from 12:00 to 5:00 on Saturday afternoon.  After working as an art teacher in the Tuscarora School District for 35 years, Peshkin retired and has since taught several forms of art to children and adults.

 

Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery

CSAGLogoDenny Bingaman300BarReliefDavid Gibney will explain how he creates his wood sculptures as part of a demonstration at The Contemporary School of Arts & Gallery at 1:00 on Saturday. He’ll be followed by a photo nature workshop led by Denny Bingaman at 2:00.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERADiona Moulin, who hosted a book signing last week during CSAG‘s first anniversary celebration in Waynesboro, returns Saturday at 3:00 PM for a poetry reading in the gallery at 10 East Main Street. “Destination ARTS!” currently features Gallery 50 (50 West Main Street), Gallery 20 East (20 East Main Street), 42 West ARTS (42 West Main Street), The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery (10 East Main Street) and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church Street).

All of the galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, fiber arts, sculpture, photographs, furniture and more. This weekend, they will be open Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Friday from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
