  • Corks and Clay sessions

CCSlabLuminaryHave fun and show your creativity on your own or with a group of friends at the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro, 13 South Church Street, on March 10th and 20th from 6:00 – 8:00.  Shine your light and create a unique ceramic luminary to light up your home, patio or special place. During this 2-hour session you’ll create a slab container, with cut out design of your choice, under the guidance of your instructor, Trudy Gembe-Palughi. Trudy will assist you step by step. Each workshop includes all materials, glaze and firings. Invite your friends for a unique night out on the town. Drinks and snacks are encouraged, BYOB. Class size is limited to 8. $30.00 pp. Payment is requested in advance and you may mail your check, made payable to NCCS, to The Ceramic Arts Center, 13 South Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Attention:Mary or make arrangements with Mary Ashe-Mahr by emailing her at [email protected]. Must be 18 years to register.
Each workshop includes all materials, glaze and firings. Register with your friends or as an individual and make new friends. Private sessions of 6 or more are also available upon request.

The cost is only $30.00 pp and your payment is requested in advance.   • Teen Wheel Throwing

Join us at The Ceramic Arts Center and learn how to throw on the wheel on Saturday mornings in March from 10:00-12:00…..What else do you have to do?  except sleep, which is highly overrated. Pre-register for all four Saturdays. Note: The first session is 3 hours – from 9:00-12:00 but the remaining sessions are 2 hours. You’ll have fun learning about centering and creating works of art.  The class is open for ages 13-18. The price for all four Saturdays is only $75.00 which includes instruction, clay, glazes and firings. Your class pre-payment is required to hold a space.   • Children’s Class – Create Fun Pots

Add flair and color to the household as students create their own unique bowl. Examples include: monsters, ladybugs, bees, lion, and flowers. Various methods will be used during the creation process and the students can use their imagination. Feet will be attached to the bottom of the bowls as the final task. These kid’s pots are sure to please and bring a smile to your face. Once finished these pots are great to catch pocket change and vehicle keys on your table. All of the items created in the classes are made with stoneware clay, which is fired two times offering a durable piece of fine pottery. This is a great way for your child to be introduced to the Arts.
The $25.00 price includes instruction, clay, glazes and firings. Your check, made payable to NCCS, may be mailed to The Ceramic Arts Center, 13 South Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. “Destination ARTS!” Gallery Events – Thursday, February 26 – Sunday, March 1

destination-arts-poster-small1“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available.

Marjorie TresslerMarjorie Tressler will again be demonstrating the “Old Masters” oil painting technique at Gallery 50 from 1:00 to 4:00 on Thursday afternoon.

WineDone“Wine Down Friday” receptions featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. Live musical performances are planned inside of Gallery 50 and 42 West Co-Op and will begin at 5:30.

ChristianHarperWaynesboro-native, Christian Harper, will make his “Destination ARTS!” debut when he brings his 12 years of experience to Gallery 50. As a member of the popular band known as Dimestore Profit, Harper had the opportunity to perform with national acts such as Eve 6, Kix and Better than Ezra. He now makes music alongside fellow musician, Matt Clise, who will join him in the gallery on Friday night.

Patric SchleeThe sounds of Patric Schlee’s flute, drums and guitar can be heard at the reception at 42 West ARTS Co-Op Friday evening at 5:30 p.m..

Saturday marks the final opportunity to explore the work of artist David Gibney. His show, “The Crash of the Forgotten American Labor Force,” has been on display at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery for the past several weeks.

 

 

 

Gallery 50 Gallery 50 will be the place to be for poetry on Sunday afternoon. Kathleen Renninger, Eliane Ambrose, Becky Dietrich Joseph Weagley and Phyllis McCullough have all either published books or contributed material to magazines in the area. They invite art enthusiasts to come hear them read excerpts of their work between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

These performances are supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Students will learn how to make rubbings from various man-made and natural textured objects. Students will also make their own “rubbing plate” that can be used repeatedly for similar works of art. All supplies and materials are provided. Just wear old clothes and plan to make ART! David Heatwole is an 11th generation artisan who works from his home in Martinsburg, WV. This class is free of charge thanks to our generous sponsors.

WritersForumLogoThe First Wednesday Writers Group group is open to local writers and aspiring writers. Each meeting has an assignment, goal or theme and members are encouraged to write an present a short piece to the group. The goal is to form a supportive group of friends who will support each other and assist in honing their skills. The group meets on the “First Wednesday” of each month at 5:00 PM, in Gallery 20 East, 20 East Main Street, Waynesboro. Marjorie TresslerThe weekend of activities will get started in Gallery 50 on Thursday afternoon. Marjorie Tressler will again be painting the figure in oil at Gallery 50 on Thursday afternoon. She can be seen using techniques created by early 20th century painter, Jacques Maroger, starting at 1:00 PM.

Patrick McNameeAndrewSussmanTwo men who have spent several years teaching music to students across Franklin County will come together for a special performance on Friday night. Pat McNamee (clarinet and saxophone) retired from his position as the band director at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School in 2013, and Andrew Sussman (keyboard) was the executive director of the Cumberland Valley School of Music for 18 years. Beginning at 5:30, the duo will combine to create an evening’s worth of entertainment as part of the reception scheduled inside of Gallery 50.

Laura Shindle Holding Oil LandscapeDemonstrations at 42 West ARTS Co-Op – Saturday 1:00 – 3:00 PM.
Donna BingamanLaura Shindle
is set to paint the landscape in oil between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00. Born and raised in Hagerstown, Shindle studied at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Fla. along with a number of renowned artists. In addition to working with oil paints, she also specializes in watercolors, pen and ink and printmaking.

During the same two-hour time period at 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Donna Bingaman will demonstrate how to paint portraits of family members and pets.

The commemoration will begin with a presentation starting at 4:00 on Saturday afternoon. That’s when Art Page will explain “How Jazz Played a Part in the Struggle for Freedom in the 1920s.”

Jerry Kowallis 2The weekend of activities comes to a close on Sunday when another couple of educators join each other for a performance in Gallery 20 East. Jerry Kowallis spent decades working as the choir director at WASHS, and Brenda Slick currently teaches at the elementary school level in the Waynesboro Area School District. From 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., the two will team up to sing a variety of love songs in anticipation of Valentine’s Day.

Anyone stopping by Gallery 50 between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 on Thursday afternoon can hear Marjorie Tressler explain the use of the “Old Masters” oil painting technique and how she applies it to art projects in the modern world.

A special book signing is planned as part of the reception at Gallery 50. Bill Helfrick, Mike Rohrer and Dave Thompson, authors of the book, Geiser: A Waynesboro Industrial Icon’s History and Legacy, will be in the gallery to sell and sign copies of their work. The trio also plans to discuss details about the company, which developed threshers, steam engines and plows in Waynesboro at the turn of the 20th century before a fire destroyed the plant on Broad Street in 1940.Sharon Rost

Down the street at 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Patric Schlee can be heard playing flute, drums and guitar.

LoriLithicumFlowersLori Linthicum will be at 42 West Artist Co-Op on Saturday to demonstrate how to make sculptural roses and other flowers in ceramic clay. Linthicum has used clay to create a variety of items during the past 10 years, including fruits, birds and insects. Her studio, Heart’s Desire Pottery, is located in Myersville, Md., but on Saturday, she can be seen in downtown Waynesboro from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

For the second time in 2015, one of Franklin County’s most recognizable performers will appear as part of “Destination ARTS!” when Drew Adams uses his guitar to make music inside of Gallery 20 East starting at 2:00 on Sunday afternoon.

Gallery 50 (50 West Main Street)
Gallery 20 East (20 East Main Street)

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church Street)
The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery (10 East Main Street)

Together, the galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, fiber arts, sculpture, photographs, furniture, prints and much more. They are open each week as follows:

Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 ( Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only)
Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

“Destination ARTS!” Gallery Events – Thursday, February 12 – Sunday, February 15

destination-arts-poster-small1“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available.

Marjorie TresslerMarjorie Tressler returns to Gallery 50 on Thursday afternoon, and this week, she’ll be exploring the use of the “Old Masters” oil painting technique. The alumna of Baltimore’s Schuler School of Fine Arts will begin painting a portrait at 1:00 p.m.

donna-bingamanDonna Bingaman takes her turn working with oil paints at 42 West ARTS Co-op on Friday. An award-winning impressionist, Bingaman’s demonstration can be witnessed between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

WineDone“Wine Down Friday” receptions featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. Live musical performances are planned inside of Gallery 50 and 42 West Co-Op and will begin at 5:30.

Ritma CordiaThe duo known as Ritma Cordia will provide the soundtrack for the evening’s festivities inside of Gallery 50. Marlin Barnes (marimba) and Jane Peatling (cello) have entertained “Destination ARTS!” audiences in the past and are now ready for their first performance in downtown Waynesboro in 2015.

Patric SchleeDrums300Per usual, Patric Schlee will set up his array of instruments and play flute, drums and guitar at the relaxed reception planned at the 42 West ARTS Co-Op.

These performances are supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Art of Rubbings Waynesboro ages 8-11 flyerThe Art of Textures Classes – with artists David F. Heatwole.
Students will learn how to make rubbings from various man-made and natural textured objects. Students will also make their own “rubbing plate” that can be used repeatedly for similar works of art. All supplies and materials are provided. Just wear old clothes and plan to make ART! David Heatwole is an 11th generation artisan who works from his home in Martinsburg, WV. This class is free of charge thanks to our generous sponsors.
