“Destination ARTS!” Gallery Events – Thursday, April 2 – Saturday, April 4

destination-arts-poster-small1“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available. Gallery 20 East will be closed for a few weeks as preparations are made for the unveiling of a new exhibit. All galleries will be closed on Sunday, April 5 due to the Easter holiday.

Marjorie TresslerMarjorie Tressler will continue to explore the work of the “Old Masters” in her weekly demonstration beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday inside of Gallery 50. The graduate of Baltimore’s Schuler School of Fine Arts plans to discuss how techniques used by 17th century painters such as Rembrandt can be applied to modern-day creations.

donna-bingamanAlso at 1:00 on Thursday afternoon, Donna Bingaman will be painting with oil at 42 West ARTS Co-Op.

 

WineDone“Wine Down Friday” receptions, featuring live music, wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. All musical performances set for inside of the galleries will begin at 5:30.

Sharon RostPianist Sharon Rost will provide the music for the reception at Gallery 50 this week. Her piano sounds have been heard as part of the “Destination ARTS!” initiative on several occasions in the past, and now, guests can enjoy them while experiencing a new variety of artwork.Gallery 50

“Celebrate Gallery 50” is the name of the latest show on display in the west window of the gallery, while the east window features floral paintings, photographs and sculptures depicting a seasonal theme of spring and summer.

Patric SchleeDown the street at 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Patric Schlee’s flute, drums and guitar can be heard on Friday night as guests take a look at the large variety of paintings, photographs, jewelry, furniture and other items created by a group of artists in the area

Donna BingamanDonna Bingaman will be back at 42 ARTS on Saturday afternoon to discuss and demonstrate the process she uses when painting portraits and pets. Starting on Saturday, April 4, the graduate of the Washington School of Art will also offer a three-week series of painting classes at 42 West ARTS from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. People interested in participating are asked to call 717-762-8394.

 

Hollis MentzerHollis Mentzer will be at 42 West ARTS from 1:00 to 3:00 on Saturday afternoon to demonstrate how to use dried plant specimens to “nature print” on absorbent paper. A retired teacher, Mentzer maintained a pottery studio for 20 years before turning his attention to hand paper-making, a companion to the nature printing he does now.

Darla Sirk Acrylic PaintingStarting this weekend, the work of acrylic animal painter, Darla Sirk, will be on display at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery. In honor of the new exhibit, high school students are invited to participate in acrylic animal painting classes at the gallery between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays throughout the month.

Character drawings
created by David Ross will remain on the walls of The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery until the end of March.

These performances are supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

“Destination ARTS!” currently features five galleries –

Together, the galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, fiber arts, sculpture, photographs, furniture, prints and much more. They are open each week as follows:

Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 ( Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only)
Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Closed Easter Sunday
