“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with live music every weekend and events and artist demonstrations scheduled at Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also be open with art and pottery for sale and art classes available. All galleries are open each week from Thursday through Sunday.
The month of March continues with another special edition of “Wine Down Friday!” Our new, internationally-themed art show has opened at Gallery 50, as paintings and photographs depicting scenes from countries such as Germany, Iceland and the Czech Republic are on display. You can meet friends and enjoy the music as well!
The Moon and You is a touring acoustic duo that “blends cello and guitar to craft folk music with a 1970’s singer-songwriter feel in the vein of Joan Baez or Harry Nilsson.”
Based in Asheville, NC, Ryan Furstenberg and Melissa Hyman infuse each The Moon and You concert with thoughtful and unusual string arrangements, thought-provoking songwriting, and gorgeous vocal harmonies.

The new show, titled “Travel ~ Through the Artist’s Eye,” is highlighted by the work of South African painter, Eric Holsmann. Known throughout the world for his illustrations of cityscapes in Pretoria, Holsmann has been honored by that city’s art museum with a retrospective exhibition spanning 25 years. Impressed by the photos his Pennsylvania-born wife took of Waynesboro, he was inspired to capture the charm of our Main Street’s buildings on canvas. These original oil paintings are now at Gallery 50 for viewing and sale.
Steven Nevada is the show’s second featured artist at Gallery 50
The colorful, impressionistic paintings of Steven Nevada were featured in last month’s “Meet the Artist” special event at Gallery 50. Nevada, who hails from Berkeley, CA, now has a home and studio in New Oxford. His original paintings are displayed in many galleries throughout the United States, including Gallery 50. Nevada is best known for his dreamy, romantic landscapes, magnificent florals and garden scenes that are reminiscent of the works done by French Impressionists. According to Nevada, “…all life is art.” We looks forward to showing and discussing his work with Gallery 50 visitors.
Along with Nevada’s works in Gallery 50, are more than 200 paintings, prints and photographs, as well as more than 600 unique gift items, including autographed children’s books, signed books of non-fiction and historical fiction, sculptures, pottery and hand-crafted jewelry. All items offer the opportunity to shop locally for one-of-a-kind, professionally crafted gifts!
The 42 West ARTS Co-Op is now offering their own version of “Wine Down Fridays” as well. Wine and light refreshments will be served in the gallery from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. as Patric Schlee performs on his flute and drums.
Saturday, April 5

Artist Barb Peshkin will be stopping by 42 West Arts on Saturday. After spending 35 years as an art teacher in the Tuscarora Area School District, Peshkin retired and took a job at the Council for the Arts in Chambersburg. The Cumberland Craftsman of the Month will be demonstrating how to construct a Medieval style soft-bound journal between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
Also on Saturday – A Children’s Magic Show is planned at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery. Magician Dean Burkett will be providing “fun the whole family can enjoy” from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. This will be followed by a poetry reading from Art Page to celebrate the start of “Poetry Month” at the gallery.
with Artist Donna Bingaman as the instructor.
Create your own still life oil painting from arranged still life setups, “Grapes and Red Wine,” “Porcelain Dolls,” “Silver Pot and Apples.”
This workshop will use still life as a means to study light, an artist’s greatest gift. Students will paint from “warm” studio light on canvases, with emphasis on composition, drawing and value. The purpose is to understand the difference between the two different temperatures of light and the effect it has on color relationships. Students of all levels will find these studies valuable no matter what subject matter they may ultimately wish to pursue.
