Rising artists from the junior and senior classes of Waynesboro Area Senior High School will be showing their work in a professional setting, with support from local seasoned artists, as part of a partnership between the WASHS Art Department and the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro. The show was juried by moderators Elena Kehoe, Tom McFarland, and Ben McAfee. “We were all impressed with the works and the interesting explorations assigned by the teachers,” said Elena Kehoe, who also acts as manager at Gallery 20 East.

This year’s WASH Art Show will showcase 98 pieces by 38 student artists (listed below), featuring various media and both 2D and 3D pieces, including acrylic paintings, drawings, embossed work, batiks, collages, monotypes, watercolors, pottery, yarn baskets, and wire, ceramic, and plaster sculptures.

The show will be held for the first time in a dedicated gallery space. The gallery is located at 20 East Main Street in Downtown Waynesboro. An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 16 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The show will run from May 15 to May 25 during the following hours: Thursdays 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., Fridays 5 p.m.- 8 p.m., Saturdays 12 – 6 p.m., and Sundays 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. The public is welcomed and encouraged to support and enjoy the youthful talent that abounds in Waynesboro. Live music is also planned most days, featuring current high school and alumni musicians.

The gallery, known as Gallery 20 East, is part of Destination ARTS!, an ongoing initiative of AAGW aimed at providing outlets for local artists, bringing cultural opportunities to residents, and supporting downtown revitalization efforts. The gallery was slated for a grand opening on June 27 as part of the Destination ARTS! project. However, volunteers have stepped up their efforts to have the gallery open by May 15th so students can utilize the space for two weeks prior to the official opening.  The WASH Art Department joins AAGW in offering gratitude to The Eagles Club, Inc. in Waynesboro who has donated usage of the space.

Enhance your experience by volunteering as a Gallery Docent. No arts expertise needed, just the willingness to warmly welcome visitors!
