Destination ARTS!, an initiative of the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro (AAGW), started its third year of activity on July 10, 2015. There are more artists, live music, literary arts, art demonstrations, workshops, and classes than ever. Five art venues are open four days a week, year round. We have an Art Scavenger Hunt for children, magic shows, Wine Down Fridays, and special events such as our 2nd Annual Gallery Wine Walk scheduled for September 12. We have collaborated with WASHS Art Department, Penn State Mont Alto, Quincy Village, the Cumberland Valley School of Music, and the Waynesboro Area Council of Churches. Where other communities offer a “First Friday” once a month, Waynesboro presents free live music multiple times every single weekend, all year long.
Volunteers are needed to help in the galleries during open hours, assist with hospitality (receptions), greet and setup for musicians, as well as to lend a hand with marketing, proofreading, graphic design, and other areas which will utilize your special experience and skills. This is a grassroots community effort, and we need YOU to get involved to make it continue to succeed!
Conceived in July 2013, Destination ARTS! has been called “the best thing to happen to Waynesboro in 30 years”. We have been lauded throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, including recognition from two Pennsylvania Governors and the PA Council on the Arts as an innovative initiative using the arts to revitalize our community. Recently, the PA Downtown Center presented us with a coveted “Townie Award” as one of the most noteworthy revitalization projects in the state!
Since its inception, there have been ongoing arts activities in Waynesboro every weekend. Currently there are five art galleries downtown. All Destination ARTS! activities are organized and coordinated entirely by volunteers.
This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference, to have an impact on the future of our community, and to share in this exciting adventure. Most important, it is FUN!
