“Destination ARTS!” Summer 2014 – Week 10, Thursday, August 28 – Sunday, August 31

destination-arts-poster-small1“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in downtown Waynesboro this weekend. Six galleries will be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

All Week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Gallery 50 Gallery 50

Located at 50 West Main Street, the largest of the galleries, Gallery 50, is filled with hundreds of pieces of art in many media. There is an extensive painting collection from numerous well know local and region artists in styles from cassic through impressionist to realistic and abstract. Other media include prints, photographs, jewelry, wooden items, books and ceramics.

SallyTruitGallery 20 East – Last Week for “Wild Things” Exhibit

Located at 20 East Main Street, The “Wild Things” exhibit will continue to be open throughout the weekend inside Gallery 20 East. “Wild Things” is a wonderfully whimsical and witty art exhibit to delight adults and children of all ages. Artist Sally Truitt of Lyons, Colorado reveals the secret life of cows and owls, and the dreams of friendly monsters. Eddie Keach Filemyr finds an exuberant jungle in our backyards, with her vivid and passionate paintings of flowers and vegetables. Michalina Eisenberg creates a whole new world with her charming hand made cloth dolls, characters in a comedy of imagination.

Located at 74 West Main Street, Our newest gallery is devoted to the work of eighteen photographers. It is in a recently renovated storefront at 74 West Main Street. If you have not stopped in, please do, for a wonderful experience. There are many remarkable, professional photographs offered for sale at very reasonable prices.

42 West Arts Co-Op

 

"42 West Arts Co-op" membersLocated at 42 West Main Street, 42 West Co-Op is featuring the two exhibits, one is a collection of Abstracts while the other is a grouping of miniatures. Each exhibit is a collection of works from numerous artists. The Co-Op has an extremely wide variety of pieces in a wide array of media, paintings, prints, collage, fabric art, photographs, wind chimes, ceramics, sculpure, and more.

 

Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

Ceramic Arts Center of WaynesboroLocated at 13 South Church Street, The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro continues to be open to the public every weekend as one of the art galleries featured in Destination ARTS!  A wide variety of beautiful pottery is available for sale on Thursdays 1 – 4 pm, Fridays 5 – 8 pm, Saturdays 12 pm – 6 pm, and Sundays 1 – 4 pm.  For more information about the Center, classes, membership opportunities, and future plans, please email waynesboroceramics@gmail.com or visit the web site.

Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery

Located at 10 East Main Street, The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery is an independently operated gallery and school. The CS&G is open during the Destination ARTS! hours with a display gallery of items for sale. They also offer art classes and after-school activities. Marjorie TresslerGallery 50

1:00 PM – Marjorie Tressler’s weekly painting demonstrations continue inside Gallery 50 starting at 1:00 on Thursday afternoon.

Friday, August 29

Island FusionOn Center Square

5:00 – 8:00 PM – Anyone visiting downtown Waynesboro on Friday night may feel like they just stepped off a boat in the Caribbean as Nancy and Jody Messich bring their “Island Fusion” sounds back to Center Square. One of last summer’s most popular “Destination ARTS!” performers, the duo covers crowd-pleasing songs such as “I Will Survive,” “Under the Boardwalk” and several of Jimmy Buffett’s greatest hits. Nancy’s steel drums can be heard from 5:00 to 8:00.

Patric SchleeDrums30042 West Arts Co-Op

5:00 PM – Patric Schlee will again be making music at 42 West ARTS Co-Op beginning at 5:00. Come, listen, or join in by playing a drum or other instrument.

Saturday, August 30

On Center Square

Non-Violent Ferns12:00 – 3:00 – The music of The Non-Violent Ferns could commonly be heard on Center Square last season, and on Saturday, they’ll be making their 2014 “Destination ARTS!” debut. The band is comprised of Erin Regan (lead vocals, keyboard, guitar and ukulele), Dani Kardisco (vocals, ukulele, percussion), Elise Stendal (vocals, guitar, ukulele and percussion), Amanda Bietsch (violin, bass and percussion) and Sammy Bradley (percussion). Their set is scheduled to start at noon.

Tim Franklin (2)3:00 – 6:00 – Tim Franklin steps up to the mic on Center Square. The nomadic singer-guitarist writes songs that are eclectic but anchored in rock music, particularly leaning toward the folk-rock genre. The front-man of Seattle-based band, Pillow Army, Franklin utilizes effects for his solo shows, including looping and percussive strumming techniques, to create a full sound, which can be heard from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.

Donna Bingaman42 West Arts Co-Op

1:00 – 4:00 PM – Donna Bingaman will be demonstrating her oil painting techniques and answer questions regarding her methods and style.

9:00 PM – The Drew Adams Project

Sunday August 31

Mountain Air (1)On Center Square

1:00 – 4:00 – Folk music will be heard on Sunday, as Mountain Air brings the weekend to a close. The trio of Bobbi Smith (vocals and guitar), Bob Murphy (upright bass) and Lisa Donohoe (vocals and mandolin) will be on Center Square between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.

 Wednesday, September 3 (at Gallery 20 East)

Writers Forum

5:00 PM – First Wednesday Writers Group is an open forum for writers of all skill levels and experience to meet and share their work, guidance, and suggestions – held the first Wednesday of every month at 5:00 pm in Gallery 20 East.

The 2014 version of “Destination ARTS!” features six galleries –

The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery (10 East Main Street)

Together, the galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, fiber arts, sculpture, photographs, furniture, prints and much more. They are open each week as follows:

Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
