“Destination ARTS!” Gallery Events – Thursday, January 29 – Sunday, February 1

destination-arts-poster-small1“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available.

WritersForumLogoThe First Wednesday Writers Group group is open to local writers and aspiring writers. Each meeting has an assignment, goal or theme and members are encouraged to write an present a short piece to the group. The goal is to form a supportive group of friends who will support each other and assist in honing their skills. The group meets on the “First Wednesday” of each month at 5:00 PM, in Gallery 20 East, 20 East Main Street, Waynesboro. Marjorie TresslerThe weekend of activities will get started in Gallery 50 on Thursday afternoon. That’s where Marjorie Tressler will be painting the figure in oil beginning at 1:00. The fine artist creates her work using the same techniques perfected by Flemish and Italian painters many centuries ago.

donna-bingamanOn the following day, Donna Bingaman takes a turn at the canvas. She is set to demonstrate how to paint people and pets using oil at 42 West ARTS Co-Op from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Bingaman says she was fascinated by faces as a child, which influenced her to begin painting pastel portraits of her family members and friends at the age of 16.

WineDone“Wine Down Friday” receptions, featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro.jonathan-ingels-2

Jon Ingels at Galley 50 – One of Waynesboro’s most popular performers will be the featured entertainment at Gallery 50 on Friday night. Jon Ingels’ blend of bluegrass, rock and blues music can be heard starting at 5:30 p.m. Jon has been part of several local groups such as The Boro Boogie Pickers for years and has developed quite a following. Friday is a great chance to heard Jon perform in a free and attractive venue.

Also at 5:30 on Friday, Patric Schlee will be playing the flute and drums as part of the reception inside of 42 West ARTS Co-Op.

 

 

Lori Linthicum250Lori Linthicum will be at 42 West ARTS Co-Op on Saturday, demonstrating how to use clay to create bird houses and plates. Inspired by the examples of nature that she finds in the backyard of her home in Maryland, Linthicum decorates with intricate details such as flowers, fruits and small animals. Visitors to the gallery can see this process in action between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00.

Ruth ShowalterSpecial Saturday Entertainment at Gallery 20 East. Ruth Showalter will be playing cello in Gallery 20 East,  2 – 4 pm, on Saturday, January 31.

Stop in to enjoy the music and view the exhibited works. One room has a very varied photographers exhibit while the other features pieces from various local artists in several different media.

These performances are supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Art of Rubbings Waynesboro ages 8-11 flyerThe Art of Textures Classes – with artists David F. Heatwole.
Students will learn how to make rubbings from various man-made and natural textured objects. Students will also make their own “rubbing plate” that can be used repeatedly for similar works of art. All supplies and materials are provided. Just wear old clothes and plan to make ART! David Heatwole is an 11th generation artisan who works from his home in Martinsburg, WV. This class is free of charge thanks to our generous sponsors.
