Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Scavenger-collageNow thru Sept. 2 – Children’s Scavenger Hunt: Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Children are invited to participate in a Destination ARTS! Scavenger Hunt starting at Gallery 50. As “DA Detectives,” they will solve clues relating to the works of art on display. Prizes will be awarded upon completion of the scavenger hunt, which will take them to four galleries clustered within two blocks. Successful detectives will also be eligible to win a grand prize to be drawn on September 2.

Nature enthusiast, Denny Bingaman will present a slide show of his nature and wildlife photography from the last 25 years. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting.

WriteNowWednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 – Writers Forum: 5-7 p.m. 32 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writer’s Forum. The theme for August’s meeting will be “Memorable Adventures We’ve Had,” or “Things You Wish You Hadn’t Done.” For information on how to join the group, please contact Jerry Kowallis at 717-352-8059 or [email protected].

Each month the Writers Forum meets to share contributions that pertain to the selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling.

Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 – Oil Painting Demonstration:Marjorie Tressler 2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and Director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting an oil painting demonstration featuring a large landscape. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

Patrick Schlee GuitarsFriday, Aug. 5, 2016 – Art of Motion Reception: 5-8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. 42 West ARTS Co-Op will be holding an opening reception for their new show, “Art of Motion” which will be exhibited through September. Members of the co-op will be showcasing their work, including photography, pottery, wood burning, nature printing, jewelry, tin-smithing, weaving, and more. Kathleen and Patric Schlee will be entertaining with live music. Wine and light refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given out. Relax and unwind in Gallery 50 this Friday as pianist Woody Payne entertains visitors with a variety of popular piano music. Wine and light refreshments will be available. Linwood E. (Woody) Payne has been working at the keyboard since the age of eight. He was the Minister of Music for two churches for 14 years. In 2000, he became involved with the Chambersburg Community Theatre, Inc. He is the founder and producer of CCT’s daughter organization, Cumberland Valley Sampler; a family-friendly, musical-variety show, presented annually.

Friday, Aug. 5, 2016 – Summer in the Square: 5:30-8 p.m. – Center Square, Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The popular Irish music of Across the Pond will be featured in Center Square this Friday.

Formed in late 2010, Across the Pond was named one of the Top 20 Celtic folk bands world-wide by Marc Gunn in 2014 and is considered the most booked Celtic band in Central PA. All members of the trio are passionate about their traditional roots but say their music is also delivered with a modern edge, with a repertoire ranging from hauntingly slow aires to high energy jig and reels, love ballads, and contemporary songs. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 – Wood Burning Demonstration: 12-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Ed BeardGallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. 42 West ARTS Co-Op member, Ed Beard, will be demonstrating wood burning designs of eagles and feathers this Saturday. Beard has been a woodworker for the past 50 year and has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Florida and is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group, and a member of the Woodworking Advisory Board.

After just two gatherings, the Artists’ Connection has expanded into a group of artists representing all of the arts in Gallery 50 on the second Monday of each month. Artists now have the opportunity to share ideas, discuss art and the newest techniques they have learned, mentor younger artists, and generally inspire one another.
