Destination ARTS! Free Performances and Events for Sept. 7-12, 2016

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 – Cold-Cast Demonstration:

Denny-BearCast_ASP8027-901-2:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-op member, Denny Bingaman, will be using a rubber mold made from a previous sculpture of a dragonfly in clay to create a new piece using the cold cast method. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting. Bingaman will use his clay sculptures to render rubber molds for cold-casting sculptures in bronze and copper. After casting, a patina is applied and finished off with steel wool and an application of wax.

Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 – Writers Forum:

WriteNow5-7 p.m. 32 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writer’s Forum. The theme for August’s meeting will be “Water,” or “Gardens.” For information on how to join the group, please contact Jerry Kowallis at 717-352-8059 or gk6684@netscape.net.

Each month the Writers Forum meets to share contributions that pertain to the selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling.

Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

Marjorie Tressler2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting an oil painting demonstration featuring a large landscape. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 – Destination INNOVATION Public Meeting:

6:30-8 p.m. 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Destination INNOVATION, an initiative of the ArtsAlliance of Greater Waynesboro, will be hosting a public meeting for the community.

The objective of the meeting is to solicit the community’s participation in developing a permanent “creative technology center” downtown. This would serve as a “maker space” and hub for a series of classes, workshops, lectures, forums, and hands-on learning and project / business-building opportunities. Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 – Wine Down Friday:

WineDoneDrewAdams5:30-8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The popular singer/guitarist Drew Adams returns to Destination ARTS! for a Wine Down Friday performance. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 – Portrait Painting Demonstration:

Donna BingamanPortraint12-2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, visit the co-op website at www.42westarts.com or call 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Lori Linthicum will delight visitors to 42 West ARTS Co-Op with a demonstration on how she creates nature-inspired sculptures in clay such as flowers, fruits, birds, and insects. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 – Gourd Art Demonstration:

Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 – Artists’ Connection Group:

The meeting serves as an opportunity to share ideas, discuss art and the newest techniques you have learned, mentor younger artists, and generally inspire one another. Continuing by popular demand, “Fin, Feathers, and Fur” featuring artists Carol Wilks and Beth De’ Loiselle will continue to be featured in the main gallery with new work being added.

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
