Destination ARTS! Free Performances and Events for Sept. 14-18, 2016

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 – Gourd Art Demonstration:

Denny Bingaman - Gourd Art1-2:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Nature enthusiast Denny Bingaman will demonstrate his process of making decorative gourds. Visitors will be shown his techniques of carving, burning, and dyeing the gourds. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting.

Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

Marjorie Tressler2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting an oil painting demonstration featuring a large landscape. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 – Musical Demonstration:

Patric Schlee didgeridoo

5:30-8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo. Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 – Wine Down Friday:

WineDoneLoose Screws5:30-8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The Loose Screws will be performing Jazz standards from all eras in Gallery 50. The instrumental group includes Pat McNamee (saxophone and clarinet), Woody Payne (keyboard), Josh Vaughn (bass), and Bill Sievers (drums). For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Destination INNOVATION (11)– Destination INNOVATION Exposition:
Fri. 5-8 p.m., Sat. 12-6 p.m., Sun. 1-4 p.m. – 90 West Main Street, Destination INNOVATION (8)Waynesboro, PA 17268. Destination ARTS! invites area makers, innovators, and tech enthusiasts to attend the 2nd annual Destination INNOVATION Exposition. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 – 3rd Annual Waynesboro Wine Walk:

Layout 12-5 p.m. Various locations between 50 West Main Street and 13 S. Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The Waynesboro Wine Walk will provide three independent winemakers and two local wineries with an opportunity to showcase their “bottled art” in each of the galleries located in the downtown district. Samples of more than 25 different wines will be available to taste and bottles of wine will be for sale by Janzell Winery and Adams County Winery. Independent winemakers include Warren Frusher, Mike Scott, and Doug Mowen. There will be no charge to taste the wine, but participants must be at least 21 years old.

Lowdown Grasskickers2

Tim Gotwald and Dan DropkinSeveral musicians are scheduled to perform throughout the course of the event, entertaining people as they pass by and travel in and out of the galleries. The bluegrass sounds of the Lowdown Grasskickers will entertain audiences on Center Square G@g2Widewhile the duo known as G@g (Gillian and Garrett Smith) will perform their contemporary sounds inside of Music Makers Center at 46 West Main Street. Tim Gotwald (flute) and Dan Dropkin (guitar) can be heard playing jazz at the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro at 13 S. Church Street, and Patric Schlee will be performing at 42 West ARTS Co-Op at 46 West Main Street. For more information, contact 717-655-2915.

Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 – Yarn Spinning Demonstration:

1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 PatBeardWest Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Weaver Pat Beard will demonstrate spinning fleece into yarn for visitors to the co-op. For more information, visit the co-op website at www.42westarts.com or call 717-762-8394.

By combining yarns of different colors and textures, Beard is able to create unique and beautiful pieces using an “old-fashioned” loom. After the weaving, each panel is washed before being finished by hand. Beard has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the Cumberland Valley Craft Guild. Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) newest window installation is “All About Color,” featuring Chambersburg contemporary artist Marti Yeager. Artwork by local artists Donna Mason, Carol Miller, and Liz Hurley is also on display. Continuing by popular demand, “Fin, Feathers, and Fur” featuring artists Carol Wilks and Beth De’ Loiselle will continue to be featured in the main gallery with new work being added.


42WestARTSW42 West ARTS Co-Op (42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) presents their new show, “Living Water.” Artwork by co-op members will be on display and for sale that features each artist’s interpretation of the theme. Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
