Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Nov. 30-Dec. 5, 2016

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Denny Bingaman - Gourd ArtWednesday, Nov. 30, 2016 – Gourd Art Demonstration:

12:30-2:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Nature enthusiast Denny Bingaman will demonstrate his process of making decorative gourds. Visitors will be shown his techniques of carving, burning, and dyeing the gourds. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

Marjorie Tressler2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting an oil painting demonstration featuring a large landscape. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

5:30-8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Jonathan Ingels will be performing his blend of bluegrass, rock, and blues music. Wine and light refreshments will be available. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Ingels is a singer/songwriter from Waynesboro, PA and has written songs and performed with several local groups, including the Boro Boogie Pickers. Ingels’ lyrical content is a mixture of storytelling and geographic imagery backed by folk chord patterns, simple melodies, and blues-driven rhythm.

Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 – Musical Demonstration and Holiday Reception:

To celebrate the holiday season, 42 West Arts Co-Op invites the community to visit the gallery for music by Patric Schlee, refreshments and wine, door prizes, and shopping for unique and personal gifts. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 – Potters’ Wheel Demonstration:

Rod Meyer2-4 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Rod Meyer and his wife Karri Benedict will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 – Wood Burning Demonstration:

Ed Beard with Eagle1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Ed Beard, will be demonstrating wood burning designs of eagles and feathers this Saturday. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Beard has been a woodworker for the past 50 years and has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Florida and is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group, and the Woodworking Advisory Board.

Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 – Portrait Painting Demonstration:

Donna Bingaman12-2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

2-4 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The multi-talented Patric Schlee invites young and old to join him for a drum circle at the co-op on Sunday. Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 – Songwriters’ Workshop:

songwriter-clipart6:30 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join members of the Songwriters’ Workshop for their monthly meeting as they share their latest efforts written around the theme of “Time Bomb.” For more information, contact Jonathan Ingels at jkingels@gmail.com.

Participants are encouraged to write a song, lyric, or instrumental piece that is inspired by that month’s theme. All genres are welcome and participants share their results, process, feedback with one another. Once a quarter, the group performs their songs for the public.

Sunday, December 11, 2016 – Christmas Caroling:

ChristmasCarolers2-3 p.m. Meet at the Christmas Tree at the Square in Waynesboro. Get in the holiday spirit and spread some cheer with members of the Waynesboro community as we sing traditional Christmas Carols around downtown Waynesboro. Everyone is welcome to participate and song sheets will be provided.

Follow up with a Holiday Choral Concert at the Evangelical Lutheran Church (43 South Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) at 4 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Ongoing Shows

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”

Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales. Guild members have 24 hour access to the wheels and kiln seven days a week. For information about classes and special programs visit their website at www.ceramics-nccs.org.
