Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Jan. 17-24, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Donna BingamanWednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 – Nature demonstration and Oil Class Demonstration:

12-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

Marjorie Tressler2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting an oil painting demonstration featuring a large landscape. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

Frank ‘n’ Bob will be stretching the boundaries of what an acoustic guitar can do on Friday. Comprised of Frank Davis and Bobby Flurie, their music is often characterized as “Piedmont blues highlighted with San Francisco overlays.” Wine and light refreshments will be available. It’s all rock and roll, but one can hear everything from ragtime, blues, psychedelia, jazz, and swing. The skill and passion these gentlemen have for music is evident by the energy level as their show unfolds. You can expect a wide variety of music including Little Feat, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and the Allman Brothers…and that’s just the first set!

5:30-8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. To celebrate the holiday season, 42 West Arts Co-Op. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 – Wood Burning Demonstration:

Ed Beard with Eagle

1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Ed Beard, will be demonstrating wood burning designs of eagles and feathers this Saturday. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Beard has been a woodworker for the past 50 years and has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Florida and is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group, and the Woodworking Advisory Board.

Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 – New Horizons Jazz Trio: new-horizons-band

1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The New Horizons Jazz Trio will be playing music to warm your January. The trio features Pat Beard, Gordon Crabb, and Nancy Draina.

 

Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 – Princess Play Party:princessparty

1:30-3:30 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Destination ARTS! and the Cumberland Valley School of Music are hosting a Princess Play Party for children ages 3 through 8. The program will feature a sing-a-long of popular Disney songs, activities and games, crafts, and snacks fit for a princess. The afternoon is $5 per child. Parents and older siblings are free. Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”

Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
