Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Feb. 1-7, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 – Gourd Art Demo and Oil Class Demonstration:

Denny Gourd Art12-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. While there, Denny Bingaman will be on hand to demonstrate how he creates gourd art through his process of burning, carving, and dyeing. For more info or to register, contact 717-62-8394.

Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 – Writers Forum:

WriteNow5-7 p.m. 32 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writer’s Forum. Participants will share written works written around the theme of “Adventures in Traveling.” For information on how to join the group, please contact Jerry Kowallis at 717-352-8059 or [email protected].

The Writers Forum meets on the first Wednesday of each month to share contributions that usually pertain to a selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling. Visitors are welcome as well as ideas for future meetings.

6-9 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Musicians of all musical genres and ability levels are invited to participate in a jam session facilitated by Joel Newsman. All musical styles are welcome and a sound system, microphone, and electric stage piano will be provided. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

Marjorie Tressler2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting her weekly demo covering a variety of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, and other genres. While there, be sure to view the gallery’s “Winter White” show featuring Steve Nevada’s impressionistic paintings as well as works by two of the region’s accomplished artists, Tom Renner and Liz Hurley. Tressler is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America for 18 years as well as a certified member of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters for over 20 years. Her art teaching career started with the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in 1994 after being featured in a solo portrait show in 1993.

WineDoneKerensa GrayRed copyLocal singer Kerensa Gray will be entertaining visitors by crooning popular blues, folk, and jazz songs. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Gray is the winner of the 20th Annual Billie Holiday Vocal Competition and one of the area’s most popular performers, Gray is often compared to jazz icons such as Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and Diana Krall. She has shared the stage with artists such as Stellar Award Winner Isaiah Thomas and opened for Grammy and Dove award winners CeCe Winans and Vickie Winans. 

Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 – Wine Down Friday:

5-8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Gallery 50 for a reception and book bookcoverpreview-final-2-1 william-larshsigning to celebrate William Larsh’s new book, L’Archevêque. Larsh will be on hand to answer questions about his novel and sign copies which will be available for sale. Wine and light refreshments will be served.

L’Archevêque is a true story of Paul L’Archevêque, a French fur trader in the 1700s and a direct ancestor of Larsh. Larsh himself is a retired FBI agent whose decades of genealogy research culminated in writing a novel depicting his ancestor in an important and relatively unknown story of a true American frontiersman.

Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 – Portrait Painting Demonstration:

DonnaandCrystal12-2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Pamela Soaring Raven will be demonstrating needle felting for co-op visitors. Needle felting is felting without water using barbed needles to push the top layer of wool into deeper layers resulting in wool fiber that “sticks” to itself without the need for soap and water. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2016 – Drum Circle:

Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 – Songwriters’ Workshop:

songwriter-clipart6:30 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join members of the Songwriters’ Workshop for their monthly meeting as they share their latest efforts writing a song based on a book or movie. For more information, contact Jonathan Ingels at [email protected].

Participants are encouraged to write a song, lyric, or instrumental piece that is inspired by that month’s theme. All genres are welcome and participants share their results, process, feedback with one another. Once a quarter, the group performs their songs for the public.

The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more. Most art is available for sale and there is no charge for admission to the galleries.
