Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Feb. 13-21, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 – Oil Painting Class: Marjorie Tressler

1-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 – Artists’ Connection Group:

The group is open to all artists and those passionate about the arts. The meeting serves as an opportunity to share ideas, discuss art and the newest techniques you have learned, mentor younger artists, and generally inspire one another. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 – Gourd Art Demo and Oil Class Demonstration:

Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. 6-9 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Musicians of all musical genres and ability levels are invited to participate in a jam session facilitated by Joel Newsman. All musical styles are welcome and a sound system, microphone, and electric stage piano will be provided. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

Marjorie Tressler2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting her weekly demo covering a variety of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, and other genres. While there, be sure to view the gallery’s “Winter White” show featuring Steve Nevada’s impressionistic paintings as well as works by two of the region’s accomplished artists, Tom Renner and Liz Hurley. Tressler is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America for 18 years as well as a certified member of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters for over 20 years. Her art teaching career started with the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in 1994 after being featured in a solo portrait show in 1993.

Thomas Roue
 takes his turn entertaining audiences on Friday with his blend of folk, rock, and blues. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Roue is based out of Gettysburg and can often be seen performing as the lead singer of Pale Barn Ghosts, whose music has been described as “haunting cemetery folk.” He believes his lyrics speak to the idea “that life, death and love are the only themes that really count.”

Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 – Wood Burning Demonstration:

Ed Beard with Eagle

1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Ed Beard, will be demonstrating wood burning designs of eagles and feathers this Saturday. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Beard has been a woodworker for the past 50 years and has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Florida and is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group, and the Woodworking Advisory Board.

Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 – Potters’ Wheel Demonstration:

Rod Meyer2-4 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Rod Meyer and his wife Karri Benedict will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

zig-herzogMonday, Feb. 20, 2017 – Global Warming Presentation:

6:30-8:30 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Zig Herzog will briefly highlight the fundamentals of climate science for the layperson which will identify carbon dioxide as the primary suspect for current observations of Earth’s rising temperatures. 2016 is the third year in a row that set a new record for the global average temperature. The talk will then turn to a market-based solution that will drastically reduce the CO2 emissions while simultaneously boosting the economy and increasing household incomes.
