Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for May 31-June 6, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, May 31, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

12 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. Gallery visitors will also be able to watch Denny Bingaman as he creates sculptures from clay. For more info or to register, call 717-762-8394.

Wednesday, May 31, 2017 – Open Mic Nite:

6 to 9 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Local artists are invited to participate in an open mic session facilitated by Brad Munn. All musical styles and spectators are welcome. A sound system, microphone, and electric stage piano will be provided. Contact 717-655-2915 for more information.

Thursday, June 1, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

2 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Gallery 50 Curator, Marjorie Tressler, will be conducting her weekly demo covering a variety of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, and other genres. While there, enjoy our new window display “Down on the Farm” accompanied by new artwork featuring new artist Tina Stonestreet and frequent artists Steve Nevada and Tom Renner. Thursday, June 1, 2017 – Wheel Throwing Demo:

5 to 8 p.m. Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro – 13 South Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Mary Ashe-Mahr will demonstrate wheel throwing techniques as she creates a variety of cylinders, mugs, and bowls. While there check out their pottery store and sign up for a Corks and Clay class! Friday, June 2, 2017 – Featured Artist Reception:

5 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. 42 West Arts Co-Op is holding a reception for featured artist Mary Hickman. Gallery members will also be there to exhibit artwork for their “Spring into Earth Day” show. Wine and light refreshments will be available as well as music by Patric Schlee. Friday, June 2, 2017 – Live Music Friday:

5:30-8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Local singer Kerensa Gray will be entertaining visitors by crooning popular blues, folk, and jazz songs with the assistance of her pianist Beth Trez. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Gray is the winner of the 20th Annual Billie Holiday Vocal Competition and one of the area’s most popular performers. She is often compared to jazz icons such as Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and Diana Krall. She has shared the stage with artists such as Stellar Award Winner Isaiah Thomas and opened for Grammy and Dove award winners CeCe Winans and Vickie Winans.

Saturday, June 3, 2017 – Children’s Tiki Tumbler:

12 to 2 p.m. $25 Ceramic Arts Studio of Waynesboro – 13 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Children ages 5-13 will receive step-by-step instruction on how to make a Tiki Tumbler from black stoneware clay painted with colorful glazes. Fee includes instruction, materials, glaze, and firings. Saturday, June 3, 2017 – Portrait Painting Demonstration:

12 to 2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Saturday, June 3, 2017 – Potters’ Wheel Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West Arts Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Rod Meyer and his wife, Karri Benedict, will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. For more information call 717-762-8394.

Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

Sunday, June 4, 2017 – Community Book Club:

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. All readers are invited to join the book club as they discuss the bestseller My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. Soon to be an HBO series, the book about two friends growing up in post-war Italy is a rich, intense, and generous-hearted family epic. Sunday, June 4, 2017 – Drum Circle:

2:00 to 3:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee invites young and old to join him for a drum circle at the co-op on Sunday. Monday, June 5, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Monday, June 5, 2017 – Songwriters’ Workshop:

7 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join members of the Songwriters’ Workshop for their monthly meeting as they share their latest efforts writing a song based on the prompt of “A Food, a Town, and the Weather.” For more information, contact Jonathan Ingels at jkingels@gmail.com.

Participants are encouraged to write a song, lyric, or instrumental piece that is inspired by that month’s theme. All genres are welcome and participants share their results, process, feedback with one another. Once a quarter, the group performs their songs for the public.

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”

Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
