Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Aug. 2-8, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Gallery 35 East, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, August 2, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

12 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. Gallery visitors can watch Denny Bingaman as as burns and dyes gourds. Wednesday, August 2, 2017 – Writers Forum:


5 to 7 p.m. Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library – 45 E. Main St.
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writers Forum meeting on the second-floor classroom of the library. For information on how to join the group, please contact Becky Dietrich at 717-749-3831 or [email protected].

The Writers Forum meets on the first Wednesday of each month to share contributions that usually pertain to a selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling. Visitors are welcome as well as ideas for future meetings.

Thursday, August 3, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Visitors to Gallery 50 are welcome to see a live demonstration on the learning process of painting from a student’s perspective. While there, browse through the art curated by Marjorie Tressler and find a unique gift!

Friday, August 4, 2017 – Musical Demonstration:

5:30 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums. While there, be sure to look for the August exhibit of work by Becky Dietrich which will include paintings and etchings of her travels around the globe. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Friday, August 4, 2017 – Live Music Friday:


5:30 to 8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Mountain Air will be performing their mix of acoustic contemporary folk and pop country this Friday. Wine and light refreshments will be available. For more information, visit www.artsalliancegw.org or call 717-655-2915.

Mountain Air is comprised of Bobbi Smith (guitar and vocals), Bob Murphy (upright bass), and Lisa Donohoe (mandolin and vocals). Smith and Donohoe began performing together as members of the Blue Ridge String Band and later, Back Porch Music in the 1990s. When they formed their own group, Mountain Air was born with Murphy later joining in 2009. The band performs at festivals, private concerts, wineries, special occasions, and art galleries.

Saturday, August 5, 2017 – Portrait Painting Demonstration:

12 to 2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Saturday, August 5, 2017 – Wood Burning Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Ed Beard, will be demonstrating wood burning designs of eagles and feathers this Saturday. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Beard has been a woodworker for the past 50 years and has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Florida and is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group, and the Woodworking Advisory Board.

Saturday, August 5, 2017 – Tween and Up Ceramics Workshop:

12 to 2 p.m. $25 Ceramic Arts Studio of Waynesboro – 13 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Artists ages eight and up can create a globe or galaxy pencil holder, using a combination of slab and sculpture. Each student will receive step-by-step instruction and can decorate their masterpiece using various decorative applications. Fee includes instruction, materials, glaze, and firings. Sunday, August 6, 2017 – Community Book Club:

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. All readers are invited to join the book club as they discuss the bestseller The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. A winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the 2017 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence, the novel tells the story of Cora and Caesar, two slaves who make a bid for freedom from their Georgia plantations by following the Underground Railroad, which in the novel is an actual subway as opposed to a series of safe houses and secret routes. Sunday, August 6, 2017 – Drum Circle:


2 to 3:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee invites young and old to join him for a drum circle at the co-op on Sunday. Bring in a drum or play one of ours! Students will be learning simple rhythms to play together. Dancers are welcome! For more information call 717-762-8394.

Monday, August 7, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Monday, August 7, 2017 – Songwriters’ Workshop:

7 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join members of the Songwriters’ Workshop for their monthly meeting as they share their latest efforts writing a song based on the prompt of “Something About a Funeral.” For more information, contact Jonathan Ingels at [email protected].

Participants are encouraged to write a song, lyric, or instrumental piece that is inspired by the month’s theme. All genres are welcome and participants share their results, process, feedback with one another. Once a quarter, the group performs their songs for the public.

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
