Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Aug. 9-15, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Gallery 35 East, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, August 9, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

12 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. Gallery visitors can watch Denny Bingaman as as burns and dyes gourds. Thursday, August 10, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Visitors to Gallery 50 are welcome to see a live demonstration on the learning process of painting from a student’s perspective. While there, browse through the art curated by Marjorie Tressler and find a unique gift!

Aug. 10, 2017 – Corks and Clay Workshop:


6 to 8 p.m. $30 Ceramic Arts Studio of Waynesboro – 13 S. Church St.
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Create a charming and functional bird feeder for your home. Feeders will be made from a combination of slab and sculpture and carvings. Fee includes instruction, materials, glaze, and firings. To register, contact Mary Ashe-Mahr at [email protected] or call 717-404-3190.

Friday, August 11, 2017 – Musical Demonstration:

5:30 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums. While there, be sure to look for a new exhibit of work displayed throughout August by Becky Dietrich which will include paintings and etchings of her travels around the globe. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Friday, August 11, 2017 – Live Music Friday:

5:30 to 8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Destination ARTS! is pleased to feature performances by musicians who participated in the Open Mic Sessions. Facilitated by Brad Munn, the Open Mics occurred every other Wednesday and were intended to give local musicians a platform to polish their performance skills and try new songs. Featured performers will be Brian Lutz, Ginny Gill, Brian Shermeyer, Ethan Larsh, Kevin Trayno, and Brad Munn.

Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 – Rock ’N Swap:

 

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268 Come out for the the Rock ’N Swap music sale where you can buy, sell, or swap your musical items.Items for sale include instruments, amps, AV equipment, cds, guitar picks and strings, and more! There will also be a “Jam Area” to try out instruments before you buy. Admission is free for those buying or selling/swapping one or two items. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 – Free Jewelry Cleaning:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Bring your tarnished silver jewelry in to 42 West ARTS Co-Op for a free jewelry cleaning by jewelry artisan Jennifer Caldwell. For more information, visit the co-op website at www.42westarts.com or call 717-762-8394.

Caldwell has been involved with jewelry making and crafting since she was a teenager. She also dabbled in pottery, calligraphy, photography, and stained glass but her passion has always been in jewelry. She taught herself through trial and error and learning through books and online resources. Visit the co-op to view her selection of work which includes pendants, chains, rings, earrings, and bracelets.

Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 – Weaving Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Pat Beard will do a demonstration weaving kitchen towels and table runners on the loom for visitors to the co-op. For more information, call 717-762-8394.

By combining yarns of different colors and textures, Beard is able to create unique and beautiful pieces using an “old-fashioned” loom. After the weaving, each panel is washed before being finished by hand. Beard has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the Cumberland Valley Craft Guild. Monday, August 14, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Monday, August 14, 2017 – Artists Connection:

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join the Artists’ Connection for their next monthly meeting. The group is open to all artists and those passionate about the arts. The meeting serves as an opportunity to share ideas, discuss art and the newest techniques you have learned, mentor younger artists, and generally inspire one another. Ongoing Shows

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
