Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Aug. 23-29, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Gallery 35 East, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, August 23, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

12 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. Gallery visitors can watch watch Denny Bingaman as he burns and dyes gourds. For more info or to register, call 717-762-8394.

Wednesday, August 23, 2017 – Basic Drawing Classes:

6-8 p.m. Walnut Street Studios – 117 Walnut St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. $180 per person. Nichole Kauffman will be teaching a series of six classes every Wednesday beginning on Aug. 23 and ending September 27 that cover the basics of drawing. Students will receive a drawing kit included in the cost of tuition. To register, email [email protected]. Kauffman is a local Waynesboro resident and received her Bachelor’s in Fine Art in 2015. She is currently working on her PhD in art education.

Thursday, August 24, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Visitors to Gallery 50 are welcome to see a live demonstration on the learning process of painting from a student’s perspective. While there, browse through the art curated by Marjorie Tressler and find a unique gift!

Friday, August 25, 2017 – Musical Demonstration:

5:30 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums.

While there, be sure to look for a new exhibit of work displayed throughout August by Becky Dietrich which will include paintings and etchings of her travels around the globe. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Friday, August 25, 2017 – Abstract Painting Classes:

Bellus will be performing acoustic-style classics like James Taylor; soulful sounds of Etta James and Eva Cassidy; country classics from Patsy Cline, and more current hits of Adele and Rhianna. The group is comprised of Jim Osik (guitar and vocals), Robin Osik (vocals), and Andy Wallace (keyboards and vocals).  Wine and light refreshments will be available. Saturday, August 26, 2017 – Portrait Painting Demonstration:

12 to 2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Saturday, August 26, 2017 – Potters’ Wheel Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West Arts Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Rod Meyer and his wife, Karri Benedict, will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. For more information call 717-762-8394.

Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

Saturday, August 26, 2017 – Painting Silk Scarves Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Love those hand-painted scarves that are all the rage? Join Pamela Soaring Raven for a demonstration and preview for a class in July on how to create your own fashion accessory. Monday, August 28, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Ongoing Shows

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church
