Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Sept. 27-Oct. 3, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Gallery 35 East, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Gourd Art Demo and Oil Painting Class:

12 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. Thursday, September 28, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler is facilitating a painting session and demo with a focus on the learning process of painting from a student’s perspective.  While there, browse through the art featuring pottery by new artist Judy Hoffman-Bolton and find a unique gift! 

Friday, September 29, 2017 – Musical Demonstration:

5:30 to 8:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. 42 West ARTS Co-Op. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums. Friday, September 29, 2017 – Live Music Friday:

5:30 to 8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Joel Newman will be performing an eclectic mix of music, including current and classic rock, funk, and blues for our Live Music Friday performance. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Newman has a diverse musical background, playing and studying everything from blues and jazz to funk and classical. He has performed with T.M. Stevens, Dick Wagner, and co-wrote and recorded Tim Curry’s (of Rocky Horror Picture Show) album “Simplicity.” When not performing, Newman teaches music and records demos out of his home studio.

Saturday, September 30, 2017 – Portrait Painting Demonstration:

12 to 2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections. 

Saturday, September 30, 2017 – Potters’ Wheel Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West Arts Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Rod Meyer and his wife, Karri Benedict, will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. For more information call 717-762-8394.

Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

Saturday, September 30, 2017 – Impressionistic Vase Kids Workshop:


1 to 3 p.m. $30 Walnut Street Studios – 117 Walnut St.

Saturday, September 30, 2017 – Children’s Fall Nature Tray:


1 to 3 p.m. $25 Ceramic Arts Studio of Waynesboro – 13 S. Church St.
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Heather Forberger will guide students in how to make a ceramic tray using a combination of slab and sculpture. Suggested for children and adults aged eight and up. Sunday, October 1, 2017 – Community Book Club:

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. 32 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. All readers are invited to join the book club as they discuss “The Story of My Teeth” by Valeria Luiselli. The book follows Gustavo Sánchez, a man with a life full of stories and a mouth full of bad teeth, but all that’s about to change because Gustavo is on a quest to obtain the perfect set of pearly whites. To do this he must travel the world, become a renowned auction caller and sell off his most precious possessions: the teeth he has collected over the years that once belonged to luminaries such as Plato, Petrarch, and Virginia Woolf. – Contemporary Praise Sunday:

2 to 4 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. The Trinity Praise Band will perform a selection of contemporary praise and worship music for the community. Lyrics will be provided so that audience members can participate. The band has been providing music for Trinity United Church of Christ’s services for almost 4 years. Monday, October 2, 2017 – Oil & Acrylic Painting Class:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Marjorie is a classically trained artist who teaches drawing, color theory and composition in the style of the old masters. These fun and relaxed sessions are $65 for 6 classes. Monday, October 2, 2017 – Songwriters’ Workshop:

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join members of the Songwriters’ Workshop for their monthly meeting as they share their latest efforts writing a song based on the prompt of ‘Wasted Hours.’ For more information, contact Jonathan Ingels at [email protected].

Participants are encouraged to write a song, lyric, or instrumental piece that is inspired by that month’s theme. All genres are welcome and participants share their results, process, feedback with one another. Once a quarter, the group performs their songs for the public. 

Tuesday, October 3, 2017 – Intro to Wheel Throwing Series:


6:30 to 9:30 p.m. $225 Ceramic Arts Studio of Waynesboro – 13 S. Church St.
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Students will learn the principles of throwing on the wheel and the life cycle of ceramics during this five-week class. The class will focus on the steps to create basic forms that are used to build the foundation to create a variety of pots. Finally, students will learn how to finish and glaze their pieces. Ongoing Shows

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”
