Destination ARTS! Activities for Oct. 4-10, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Gallery 35 East, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, October 4, 2017 – Writers Forum:

5 to 7 p.m. Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library – 45 E. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writers Forum meeting on the second-floor classroom of the library. This month will feature guest speaker James D. Collier who has written a number of books of poetry and short stories. Writer’s will also share personal works written around the topic of “School Days.” For information on how to join the group, please contact Jerry Kowallis at 717-352-8059 or [email protected].

The Writers Forum meets on the first Wednesday of each month to share contributions that usually pertain to a selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling. Visitors are welcome as well as ideas for future meetings.

Wednesday, October 4, 2017 – Halloween Ring Holder:

6 to 8 p.m. $25 Ceramic Arts Studio of Waynesboro – 13 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Students at least 13 years of age are invited to create a festive witch or pumpkin ring holder led by Heidi Kenney. Thursday, October 5, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler is facilitating a painting session and demo with a focus on the learning process of painting from a student’s perspective. While there, browse through the art featuring pottery by new artist Judy Hoffman-Bolton and find a unique gift!

Friday, October 6, 2017 – Wheel Throwing Demo:


5 to 8 p.m. Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro – 13 South Church Street
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Mary Ashe-Mahr will demonstrate wheel throwing techniques as she creates a variety of cylinders, mugs, and bowls. While there check out their pottery store and sign up for a Corks and Clay class! Call 717-404-3190 for more information. 

Friday October 6, 2017 – Musical Demonstration:


5:30 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St.
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums. While there, view works of art by students of Donna Bingaman in their “Romancing the Canvas” show. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 – Live Music Friday:

5:30 to 8 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Tresa Day will be performing her eclectic mix of classic rock, blues, soul, and folk for our Live Music Friday performance. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tresa Day performs in multiple genres that include rhythm and blues, folk, and classic rock. She also performed as a back-up vocalist with an Elvis Presley tribute show for several years. In 2015, she released an album called “Old Soul” that features a collection of standards and popular music from the 1930s to the 1970s.

Friday, October 6, 2017 – Intro to Bullet Journaling Workshop:

6 to 9 p.m. $25 Walnut Street Studios – 117 Walnut St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Let your creativity work for you by learning the customizable organizational system known as bullet journaling led by Lindsey Sutton. 12 to 2 p.m. 42 West Arts Co-Op – 42 W. Main St.
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Pamela Soaring Raven will combine different pieces of wool and fiber to create a non-woven piece of felt. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

 

Saturday, October 7, 2017 – Bargello Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Becky Dietrich will show how to create Bargello which is an ancient Florentine needle weaving technique. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Dietrich owned and operated A Little Gallery of Mont Alto for twenty years. The gallery featured the works of over 100 artists and craftsmen of the Cumberland Valley. She is an artist who paints regional landmarks as well as making wall hanging and pillows in Bargello.

Sunday, October 8, 2017 – Thanksgiving Harvest Mini Pitcher:


2 to 4 p.m. $25 Ceramic Arts Studio of Waynesboro – 13 S. Church St.
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The Ceramic Arts Center is pleased to offer a workshop designed for the whole family! This class is for children individually or the option to bring along a family member to create two Native American mini pitchers together. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 – Oil & Acrylic Painting Class:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Marjorie is a classically trained artist who teaches drawing, color theory and composition in the style of the old masters. These fun and relaxed sessions are $65 for 6 classes. Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”
