Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for Nov. 1-7, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Gallery 35 East, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, November 1, 2017 – Gourd Art Demo and Oil Painting Class:

12 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. Gallery visitors can watch Denny Bingaman burn and dye gourds. For more info, call 717-762-8394.

Wednesday, November 1, 2017 – Writers Forum:

5 to 7 p.m. Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library – 45 E. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writers Forum meeting on the second-floor classroom of the library. Writers are asked to contribute poetry, either your own or a favorite poem. The Writers Forum meets on the first Wednesday of each month to share contributions that usually pertain to a selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling. Visitors are welcome as well as ideas for future meetings.

Wednesday, November 1, 2017 – Open Mic Nite:

7 to 9 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. The Arts Alliance is pleased to once again present Open Mic Nite at Music Makers. Local artists are invited to participate in a session facilitated by Brad Munn. All musical styles and spectators are welcome. A sound system, microphone, and electric stage piano will be provided. Thursday, November 2, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler is facilitating a painting session and demo with a focus on the learning process of painting from a student’s perspective. While there, browse through the art featuring pottery by new artist Judy Hoffman-Bolton and find a unique gift!

Friday, November 3, 2017 – Fire & Ice Show and 4 Year Anniversary Celebration:

5 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. The artists of 42 West Arts will celebrate their four-year anniversary with a reception and an all-member show featuring art with paintings by Donna Bingaman and Janette Koons, photography by Denny Bingaman and Andy Smetzer, jewelry by Kay Ackerman and Jennifer Caldwell, textile arts by Pamela Nelson and Pat Beard, and wood burning by Ed Beard. Friday, November 3, 2017 – Musical Demonstration:


5:30 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St.
, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums. While there, view works of art by students of Donna Bingaman in their “Romancing the Canvas” show. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Friday, November 3, 2017 – Gallery 50 Book Signing:

5 to 8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.

In 1964, seventeen-year-old Peggy Bradnick was abducted and held hostage for a week in Shade Valley that resulted in the largest manhunt in Pennsylvania history up to that time. Gallery 50 has invited Ken Peiffer, author of “Trail of Terror” and Peggy Bradnick, co-author of “The Voice in the Mountains” with Chris Aarmagost for a meet-and-greet and book signings of their books that cover the terrifying events. Friday, November 3, 2017 – Live Music Friday:

5:30 to 8 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.

The Flying Matlocks, featuring Scott and Laurie Matlock, will be performing their mix of folk and bluegrass. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 717-655-2500.

In addition to their work as a duo, Scott (vocals and fiddle) and Laurie (vocals and guitar) are well-known throughout the area for their work with Soleil. Scott also performs with the popular bluegrass group Mountain Ride.

Saturday, November 4, 2017 – Portrait Painting Class:

12 to 2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Saturday, November 4, 2017 – Bead Embroidery Demonstration:

12 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Kay Ackerman will be in the gallery presenting a demonstration on the ancient art of beading. Ackerman uses shaped beads made in the Czech Republic as well as mixed media including painted metal filigree and glass tiles done in nail polish. Ackerman is an associate professor of History at Wilson College and has been beading for 25 years. Her work has been shown at the Bogigian Gallery and the Chambersburg Council for the Arts. She takes her inspiration from nature, architecture, and historical decorative arts traditions. Sunday, November 5, 2017 – Drum Circle:

2 to 3:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee invites young and old to join him for a drum circle at the co-op on Sunday. Sunday, November 5, 2017 – Community Book Club:

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. 32 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. All readers are invited to join the book club as they discuss “The Return” by Hisham Matar. The book was the 2017 Pulitzer Prize winner and is Matar’s memoir of his journey home to his native Libya in search of answers to his father’s disappearance. Monday, November 6, 2017 – Oil & Acrylic Painting Class:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Marjorie is a classically trained artist who teaches drawing, color theory and composition in the style of the old masters. These fun and relaxed sessions are $65 for 6 classes. Monday, November 6, 2017 – Songwriters’ Workshop:

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join members of the Songwriters’ Workshop for their monthly meeting as they share their latest efforts writing a song based on the prompt of ‘Dance.’ For more information, contact Jonathan Ingels at [email protected].

Participants are encouraged to write a song, lyric, or instrumental piece that is inspired by that month’s theme. All genres are welcome and participants share their results, process, feedback with one another. Once a quarter, the group performs their songs for the public.

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
