Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, July 6, 2016 – Writer’s Forum: 5-7 p.m. 32 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of WriteNowall genres are welcome to join the monthly Writer’s Forum. The theme for July’s meeting will be “Traditions – national, family, or of other cultures.” For information on how to join the group, please contact Jerry Kowallis at 717-352-8059 or [email protected].

Each month the Writer’s Forum meets to share contributions that pertain to the selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling.

Thursday, July 7, 2016 – Gallery Talks: 2 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, MarjorieInWindowWaynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and Director Marjorie Tressler will be starting a new series of gallery talks in Gallery 50 every Thursday. Each week will feature a discussion on the various regional and local artists featured in Gallery 50, including information on their background, latest works, and art genre. Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

Friday, July 8, 2016 – Wine Down Friday: 5:30-8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main WineDoneStreet, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Destination ARTS! will sponsor a musical performance for the general public for free in Ron NicodemusGallery 50 each Friday. Each week, a member of the musical community is featured in performance in the Gallery. Wine and light refreshments will be available.

This week, singer, songwriter, and guitarist Ron Nicodemus will be performing a medley of musical genres in Gallery 50. His style includes blues, rock, reggae, and even a little country. Nicodemus will be joined by drummer Brian Forberger who has also performed in Gallery 50. Wine Brian Forbergerand light refreshments will be available. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Born and raised in Gettysburg, Nicodemus has played in hundreds of gigs over the past two and a half decades, honing his skills by covering an eclectic variety of styles. Friday, July 8, 2016 – Summer in the Square: 5:30-8 p.m. – Center Square, Main Street, Waynesboro, Across the Pond 2PA 17268. The popular Irish music of Across the Pond will be featured in Center Square this Friday. The band features Michael Morrison (guitar, mandolin, flue and vocals), Chuck Krepley (fiddle, banjo, vocals), and Dan Diviney (whistles, bodhran, vocals). Formed in late 2010, Across the Pond was named one of the Top 20 Celtic folk bands world-wide by Marc Gunn in 2014 and is considered the most booked Celtic band in Central PA. All members of the trio are passionate about their traditional roots but say their music is also delivered with a modern edge, with a repertoire ranging from hauntingly slow aires to high energy jig and reels, love ballads, and contemporary songs. A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Denny Gourd ArtSaturday, July 9, 2016 – Gourd Art Demonstration: 1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Nature enthusiast, Denny Bingaman will demonstrate his process of making decorative gourds. Visitors will be shown his techniques of carving, burning, and dyeing the gourds. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting.

Saturday, July 9, 2016 – Leather Handcrafting: 1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 Barb Peshkin 2West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. 42 West ARTS Co-Op member, Barb Peshkin, will be working in leather, handcrafting medieval-style journals and sketch pads. Peshkin’s art focuses mostly on leather crafting, calligraphy and Medieval-style illumination. She also works in gouache paints. After working in the Tuscarora School District for 35 years, she retired and worked for the Council for the Arts in Chambersburg, PA for three years. She is currently a member of the Cumberland Valley Craftsmen Guild and occasionally teaches adult and children’s classes.

Visit Center Square on Sunday to hear Nashville recording artist Jason Kabler. Originally from Greencastle, PA, Kabler now lives in Nashville and has released multiple albums with an independent record label. He is also the head of the Hendersonville, TN chapter of Global Songwriters Connection which helps songwriters become more successful through education, support, and networking. Monday, July 11, 2016 – NEW! – Artists’ Connection Group: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Gallery 50 – PianoMural50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. All artists and artisans are invited to join a new monthly discussion group aimed to connect one another. The group will provide a fun and convenient social opportunity for anyone wanting to share ideas, art techniques, upcoming regional show dates, receive and provide mentoring, and inspire one another. Participants are encouraged to bring their latest art projects for those in attendance to view and enjoy. There are no fees or club/membership requirements. Artwork by local artists Donna Mason, Carol Miller, and Liz Hurley is also on display. Continuing by popular demand, “Fin, Feathers, and Fur” featuring artists Carol Wilks and Beth De’ Loiselle will continue to be featured in the main gallery with new work being added.

Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
