“Destination ARTS!” Gallery Events – Thursday, October 16 – Sunday, October 19

destination-arts-poster-small1“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with live music every weekend and events and artist demonstrations scheduled at Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-OpThe Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also be open with art and pottery for sale and art classes available.  All galleries are open each week from Thursday through Sunday.

Gallery 50

Marjorie Tressler1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – This week, award-winning artist Marjorie Tressler gets the activities started with a painting demonstration inside Gallery 50 on Thursday afternoon. The alumnus of Baltimore’s Schuler School of Fine Arts specializes in portrait and genre paintings, as well as still-life and landscapes.

Gallery 50Ritma Cordia

5:30 – 8:00 p.m. – The duo known as Ritma Cordia will provide the music for Gallery 50’s weekly “Wine Down Friday” event between the hours of 5:30 and 8:00 p.m. Marlin Barnes (marimba) and Jane Peatling (cello) received rave reviews after playing in the gallery during last month’s Waynesboro Wine Walk, and now, they’re preparing to bring their unique sounds back to Main Street. Wine and light refreshments will be served.

42 West ARTS Co-Op

Patric Schlee5:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Patric Schlee will again be playing flute and drums as part of the 42 West ARTS Co-Op’s edition of “Wine Down Friday.”

Ed Beard with Eagle42 West ARTS Co-Op

1:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Woodworker Ed Beard will be at the co-op on Saturday afternoon, teaching the art of wood burning. As part of this particular demonstration, Beard will burn a portrait of the American Bald Eagle into wood. A member of the Cumberland Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, Beard enjoys teaching and working with wood species native to the Keystone State.

Amalgam final3“Amalgam” Art Show – 37 West Main Street, Schier’s Furniture Market

This weekend marks the final opportunity to view the art show entitled, “Amalgam.” Featuring the work of nine emerging artists from Franklin, Frederick and Washington counties, the pop-up gallery opened inside of Schier’s Furniture Market Warehouse (37 West Main Street) last weekend.

Located at 50 West Main Street, the largest of the galleries, Gallery 50, is filled with hundreds of pieces of art in many media. A wide variety of new artwork is on display at Gallery 50 this weekend. Anyone visiting the gallery will have the opportunity to purchase colorful Bargello wool pillows created by Becky Dietrich, pen and ink drawings from Carrie Dietrich or Kay Ackerman’s latest bracelets. John Mullican’s two new oil paintings, “Wood Duck” and “House Wren,” can now be viewed at the gallery, as well as his most recent terracotta bust, “American Indian.”

Katrina Hoopes has continued to paint a more of her favorite dogs from the Antietam Humane Society, and 50% of her commission sales are donated to AHS.

A new installation, titled “Nature’s Bounty,” is now open in the east window of Gallery 50 this weekend. The show, with work from Waynesboro-based artists such as Marjorie Tressler, Rodney Clark and Virginia Hair, will run through the middle of November.

42 West Arts Co-Op

"42 West Arts Co-op" membersLocated at 42 West Main Street, 42 West Co-Op is featuring two exhibits, one is a collection of Abstracts while the other is a grouping of miniatures. Each exhibit is a collection of works from numerous artists. The Co-Op has an extremely wide variety of pieces in a wide array of media, paintings, prints, collage, fabric art, photographs, wind chimes, ceramics, sculpure, and more.

Witches Hats (Ages 5-16) Saturday, October 18th 1:00 – 3:00 $25
Students will create a witches hat from clay. This will be done using slab building techniques. Hats will be used as Halloween decorations. Creativity will be used to add decorations to the exposed clay areas. Stars, moon, belt buckle, and spiders can all be added for extra detail. Don’t get spooked this is just for fun! Create a Fall Oil Diffuser (Oct 14th from 6:00 – 8:00) and again (Oct 24th from 6:00 – 8:00) – $30.
Have fun and be creative with a group of friends at the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro, 13 South Church Street.  During this 2 hour session you will create a Fall Oil Diffuser under the guidance of your instructor, Heather Forberger, who will assist you step by step. Located at 10 East Main Street, The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery is an independently operated gallery and school. The CS&G is open during the Destination ARTS! hours with a display gallery of items for sale. They also offer art classes and after-school activities. Throughout the month of September, the work of stained glass artist Leon Adler will be on display at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery.
