The 2014 summer initiative of “Destination ARTS!” may be over, but now the live music, artist demonstrations and other activities all move inside of the downtown Waynesboro galleries throughout the next several months.
Thursday, October 9
Gallery 50
1:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Marjorie Tressler will be demonstrating her painting style inside of Gallery 50.
“Wine Down” Friday, October 10
They’re Back! – The ever popular “Wine Down Friday” receptions return to the galleries this weekend, with wine and light refreshments and entertainment located inside the galleries from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Gallery 50
5:00 – 8:00 p.m. – The father/daughter team of Andrew and Nicola Sussman will provide the entertainment for the evening at Gallery 50, performing standards and folk songs. Nicola, who is known for her work with The Queen Bees, will sing and play her ukulele. Andrew, a jazz pianist and composer, will accompany her on keyboard and harmonica.
Gallery 20 East
5:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Favorite singer-songwriter Brad Munn’s vocals, guitar and fiddle can be heard at Gallery 20 East where he will focus on bluegrass and rock. Brad is also known for his work with The Lowdown Grasskickers and the Boro Boogie Pickers.
42 West ART Co-Op
Patric Schlee is scheduled to set the mood at 42 West ARTS Co-Op’s edition of “Wine Down Friday” using his flute and drums.
Saturday, October 11
42 West ART Co-Op
1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Donna Bingaman will return to the co-op on Saturday to lead another painting demonstration between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. A member of several area art associations, including The Valley Art Association, the Waynesboro Studio Club and the Franklin County Art Alliance, Bingaman has studied with a number of nationally known artists.
NEW GALLERY OPENING! at 37 West Main Street – Schier’s Furniture Market
“Amalgam,” a new show featuring nine emerging artists from Franklin, Frederick, and Washington counties, will open for just two weekends starting on October 11 at Schier’s Furniture Market Warehouse at 37 West Main Street. For more information, click HERE!

Gallery 50
Located at 50 West Main Street, the largest of the galleries, Gallery 50, is filled with hundreds of pieces of art in many media. A wide variety of new artwork is on display at Gallery 50 this weekend. Anyone visiting the gallery will have the opportunity to purchase colorful Bargello wool pillows created by Becky Dietrich, pen and ink drawings from Carrie Dietrich or Kay Ackerman’s latest bracelets. John Mullican’s two new oil paintings, “Wood Duck” and “House Wren,” can now be viewed at the gallery, as well as his most recent terracotta bust, “American Indian.”
Katrina Hoopes has continued to paint a more of her favorite dogs from the Antietam Humane Society, and 50% of her commission sales are donated to AHS.
A new installation, titled “Nature’s Bounty,” is now open in the east window of Gallery 50 this weekend. The show, with work from Waynesboro-based artists such as Marjorie Tressler, Rodney Clark and Virginia Hair, will run through the middle of November.
Gallery 20 East – Last Chance to see the “Threads” exhibit.
This weekend marks the final opportunity to experience the exhibit entitled, “Threads: Fiber Arts from The Torpedo Factory,” inside of Gallery 20 East. Since early September, the work of three award-winning artists who regularly show their work at the famed Torpedo Factory Art Center in the Old Town section of Alexandria, Va. has been on display. But, after Sunday, the “quilt art” of Floris Flam and Dianne Harris Thomas will disappear, along with the threaded metal jewelry and sculptures created by Marla Rudnick.
Gallery 74 @ “Through the Lens”
This weekend will also mark the final opportunity to view the photographs at “Through the Lens – Gallery 74 West”. Although this “pop-up” gallery will close, many of the photographers will move down the street with a special show opening in Gallery 20 East on Friday, October 24.
42 West Arts Co-Op
Located at 42 West Main Street, 42 West Co-Op is featuring two exhibits, one is a collection of Abstracts while the other is a grouping of miniatures. Each exhibit is a collection of works from numerous artists. The Co-Op has an extremely wide variety of pieces in a wide array of media, paintings, prints, collage, fabric art, photographs, wind chimes, ceramics, sculpure, and more.
Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro
Located at 13 South Church Street, The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro continues to be open to the public every weekend as one of the art galleries featured in Destination ARTS! A wide variety of beautiful pottery is available for sale on Thursdays 1 – 4 pm, Fridays 5 – 8 pm, Saturdays 12 pm – 6 pm, and Sundays 1 – 4 pm. Create a Decorated Lidded Container with Trudy Gembe-Palughi
Sign up this week for the class offered October 9. The workshop provides two hours of “hands on,” step-by-step instruction helping you learn how to make a piece as shown in the photo. The workshop includes all materials, glazes and firings. Minimum group size of four and maximum of eight. You may BYOB and BYOS (bring your own snacks). Cost is $30.00 per person.
Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery
Located at 10 East Main Street, The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery is an independently operated gallery and school. The CS&G is open during the Destination ARTS! hours with a display gallery of items for sale. They also offer art classes and after-school activities. Throughout the month of September, the work of stained glass artist Leon Adler will be on display at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery.
