“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available.
Marjorie Tressler Gallery 50‘s curator and gallery director continues her series of demonstrations and talks on the old masters style of painting Thursday, May from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. She will be explaining her style in portraiture. Marjorie’s talk this week will be on the work of the faculty of the Schuler School of Fine Arts located in Baltimore, as well as other prominent artists she is featuring in the gallery. Marjorie has both taught and has had solo shows at the Washington Co Museum of Fine Arts as well as other prominent galleries in the region. Gallery 50 will soon be two years old and in conjunction with this she is featuring in the West Window “Celebrate Gallery 50” and the East Window “Spring into Summer.”
“Wine Down Friday” receptions, featuring live music, wine and light refreshments, are scheduled on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at four of the galleries.
Jon Ingles will be releasing his new CD in Gallery 50 on Friday, May 22 from 5:30 to 8:00. Jon plays bluegrass, country and rock (vocals and guitar). He is also a singer-songwriter for three different groups: Big Whiskey, Slackwater 3, and the Lowdown Grasskickers, as well as being a solo performer.
Patric Schlee will play flute, drums and didgeridoo in 42 West Arts Co-op on Friday from 5:30 – 8:00 pm. Bring your own instrument if you’d like to join in, or use one of his drums.
“Images in Black and White” by the Penn’s Woods Printmakers continues in Gallery 20 East. The exhibit features a variety of art in black and white using several printmaking techniques such as etching, linocut, woodcut and photography.
Zack Grass (tuba), Eric Wengert (ukulele), Ethan Mankins (Drum Set), Austin Beaufort (trombone) and other members to be announced of the Sure Green Blues Band will perform their unique style of music in Gallery 20 East on Friday, May 22 from 5:30 to 8:00. The band is comprised of former Waynesboro High School students and was formed at Destination ARTS!
Ed Beard will be demonstrating wood burning feathers and eagles on Saturday, May 23 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the 42 West Arts Co-Op. Ed is an educator/artist and has been a woodworker for 50 years. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman – Cumberland Valley Chapter, the Lincoln Highway Heritage group and a member of Woodsmith’s advisory board.
The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages with classes, pottery sales, and 24/7 member access.
A free live musical performance will also be presented at Schier’s Furniture Lifestyles, 37 West Main St. from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. Thomas Roue is based out of Gettysburg and can often be seen performing as the lead singer of Pale Barn Ghosts, whose music has been described as “haunting cemetery folk.” He believes his lyrics speak to the idea “that life, death and love are the only themes that really count.” Champagne and Zoe’s chocolate will be served.
Korean Pure Sound, a percussion band that performs Samulnori music — a style where each instrument mirrors an element of nature – will perform on the Square, Saturday, May 23 from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. The performance is sponsored by Sapporo Japanese Restaurant.
David Gibney’s three-dimensional art remains on display through the end of May at The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery. Andy Smetzer’s photography work continues through the end of May. Andy enjoys stormy, moody landscapes trying to capture feeling in those shots and has photographed a variety of subjects.
