Destination ARTS! Performances and Events for May 7-16, 2017

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sunday, May 7, 2017 – Community Book Club:

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. All readers are invited to join the book club as they discuss “Swing Time” by Zadie Smith, which explores how dance can and can’t transcend racial barriers. Sunday, May 7, 2017 – Drum Circle:

2-3:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee invites young and old to join him for a drum circle at the co-op on Sunday. Monday, May 8, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

1 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Marjorie Tressler invites artists of all ability levels to attend her weekly painting class in Gallery 50 that will cover both oil and acrylic mediums. Monday, May 8, 2017 – Artists Connection:

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join the Artists’ Connection for their next monthly meeting. The group is open to all artists and those passionate about the arts. The meeting serves as an opportunity to share ideas, discuss art and the newest techniques you have learned, mentor younger artists, and generally inspire one another. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 – Oil Painting Class:

12 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join Donna Bingaman at her weekly painting class every Wednesday while Patric Schlee provides ambient music designed to inspire! Each student benefits from her personal instruction and 40 years of experience. Each class is $15. Denny Bingaman will also be creating gourd art through a process of burning and dyeing the gourds. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 – Jam Session:

6 to 9 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Musicians of all musical genres and ability levels are invited to participate in a Jam Session facilitated by Joel Newman. All musical styles are welcome and a sound system, microphone, and electric stage piano will be provided. Thursday, May 11, 2017 – Suminagashi and Japanese Stab Book Binding Class:

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. $50 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Pamela Nelson offers two classes in one! Learn the ancient technique of printing from inks floating on water. The marbled sheets of paper will then be used to create a Japanese Stab book using variety of book-binding techniques. Each student will leave with their very own journal. Thursday, May 11, 2017 – Oil Painting Demonstration:

2 to 4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Gallery 50 Curator, Marjorie Tressler, will be conducting her weekly demo covering a variety of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, and other genres. While there, enjoy our new window display “Down on the Farm” accompanied by new artwork featuring new artist Tina Stonestreet and frequent artists Steve Nevada and Tom Renner. Thursday, May 11, 2017 Contemporary Choir:

7 to 8 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Join members of our Community Choir which is open to singers of all skill levels who are at least 14 years of age on Thursdays at Music Makers. Friday, May 12, 2017 – Musical Demonstration:

5:30 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums. While there, be sure to look for the quilted and hand-crafted creations by guest artist Andrea Finch. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Friday, May 12, 2017 – Corks and Clay Workshop:

6 to 8 p.m. $30 Ceramic Arts Studio of Waynesboro – 13 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Students will create a decorative pottery pyramid hanging basket perfect for the patio. Baskets will be made from a combination of slab, carving, and sculpture. Fee includes instruction, materials, glaze, and firings. Friday, May 12, 2017 – Live Music Friday:

5:30 to 8 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. The Tresa Day Trio (TDT) will be performing pop and jazz from the 30s through the 70s, as well as hits by popular contemporary artists. Featuring Tresa Day (vocals), Dale Sharrah (bass), and Sam Hepfer (drums), the members share a passion for great songs and a deep love of music. Saturday, May 13, 2017 – Portrait Painting Demonstration:

12 to 2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Saturday, May 13, 2017 – Painting with Light:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Photographer Andy Smetzer will be demonstrating a fun photographic technique that uses a flashlight in a dark area to “paint” your subject with light. Participation is encouraged! Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) Artwork by local and regional artists is on display and for sale. The walls are filled with fine art paintings in beautiful frames. The tables are covered with outstanding examples of pottery, wood work, jewelry, sculpture, cards and even hand made soaps. Truly an experience for the senses – especially with the addition of music performances during “Wine Down Friday.”

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
