“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with live music every weekend and events and artist demonstrations scheduled at Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also be open with art and pottery for sale and art classes available. All galleries are open each week from Thursday through Sunday.

The month of May continues with yet another special edition of “Wine Down Friday!” Our new, internationally-themed art show is open at Gallery 50, with paintings and photographs depicting scenes from countries such as Germany, Iceland and the Czech Republic on display. Come, meet friends, view the art and enjoy the music!

Pianist Sharon Rost will be providing the music at this week’s “Wine Down Friday” inside of Gallery 50. She’s set to play an assortment of standards beginning at 5:45 p.m.
Patric Schlee’s flute and drums have created a popular sound at 42 West ARTS Co-Op for the past several weeks, and he’ll continue the tradition on Friday night. His music, as well as wine and food options, will be available in the gallery.
Friday & Saturday, May 9-10
The Nicodemus Center for Ceramic Studies at Penn State Mont Alto and the Mont Alto Pottery Guild will hold a Mother’s Day pottery sale on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10, from 11 AM to 4 PM each day, in the center’s pottery studio, room 008, General Studies building on the Mont Alto campus. The sale will include a variety of wheel thrown, slab and hand-built stonewares, including bowls, basins, mugs, cups, pitchers, flowerpots, vases, plates, jars, platters, trays and tiles, created by guild members. The cost for most of the sale items will range from $10 to $30.
Saturday, May 10
May 10 marks another “Second Saturday” at Gallery 50. This month, Janie Moltrup is scheduled to demonstrate watercolor brush techniques from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The talented artist will be bringing a backdrop made by pressing leaves onto watercolor paper to create designs within the background. Examples of Moltrup’s work will be on display and available for purchase while she’s downtown.
Meanwhile, over at 42 West Co-Op, Denny Bingaman will demonstrate the art of bas relief using hardboard and epoxy clay with a bonded metal finish. He’ll be educating his audience between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 on Saturday afternoon.
At the same time in the same gallery, Donna Bingaman will be oil painting.
Co-Op members have also announced that a basket-making workshop will be instructed by Sue Matson from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17. Class members will learn basic weaving skills while gaining an understanding of basket construction. No experience is necessary. For more information, call 717-762-8394.
