destination-arts-poster-small1“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in downtown Waynesboro this weekend. Six galleries will be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

All Week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Gallery 50 Gallery 50

Located at 50 West Main Street, the largest of the galleries, Gallery 50, is filled with hundreds of pieces of art in many media. A wide variety of new artwork is on display at Gallery 50 this weekend. Anyone visiting the gallery will have the opportunity to purchase colorful Bargello wool pillows created by Becky Dietrich, pen and ink drawings from Carrie Dietrich or Kay Ackerman’s latest bracelets. John Mullican’s two new oil paintings, “Wood Duck” and “House Wren,” can now be viewed at the gallery, as well as his most recent terracotta bust, “American Indian.”

Katrina Hoopes has continued to paint a more of her favorite dogs from the Antietam Humane Society, and 50% of her commission sales are donated to AHS.

A new installation, titled “Nature’s Bounty,” is now open in the east window of Gallery 50 this weekend. The show, with work from Waynesboro-based artists such as Marjorie Tressler, Rodney Clark and Virginia Hair, will run through the middle of November.

marlasrudnick_4Gallery 20 East – New Exhibit, “Threads” now open.

A new exhibit opened at Gallery 20 East last Friday. “Threads: Fiber Arts from the Torpedo Factory” features projects completed by Floris Flam, Marla Rudnick and Dianne Harris Thomas. All three artists have work featured in the famed Torpedo Factory Art Center in the Old Town section of Alexandria, Va. on a regular basis.

Located at 74 West Main Street, Our newest gallery is devoted to the work of eighteen photographers. It is in a recently renovated storefront at 74 West Main Street. If you have not stopped in, please do, for a wonderful experience. There are many remarkable, professional photographs offered for sale at very reasonable prices.

42 West Arts Co-Op

"42 West Arts Co-op" membersLocated at 42 West Main Street, 42 West Co-Op is featuring two exhibits, one is a collection of Abstracts while the other is a grouping of miniatures. Each exhibit is a collection of works from numerous artists. The Co-Op has an extremely wide variety of pieces in a wide array of media, paintings, prints, collage, fabric art, photographs, wind chimes, ceramics, sculpure, and more.

Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

Ceramic Arts Center of WaynesboroLocated at 13 South Church Street, The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro continues to be open to the public every weekend as one of the art galleries featured in Destination ARTS!  A wide variety of beautiful pottery is available for sale on Thursdays 1 – 4 pm, Fridays 5 – 8 pm, Saturdays 12 pm – 6 pm, and Sundays 1 – 4 pm.  For more information about the Center, classes, membership opportunities, and future plans, please email [email protected] or visit the web site.

LeonAdlerGlass400Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery

Located at 10 East Main Street, The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery is an independently operated gallery and school. The CS&G is open during the Destination ARTS! hours with a display gallery of items for sale. They also offer art classes and after-school activities. Throughout the month of September, the work of stained glass artist Leon Adler will be on display at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery.

Thursday, September 11

Marjorie TresslerGallery 50

1:00 PM – Marjorie Tressler’s weekly painting demonstrations continue inside Gallery 50 starting at 1:00 on Thursday afternoon.

PSULogoFriday, September 12 Is “Penn State Day” !

There will be plenty of blue and white in downtown Waynesboro from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12 as “Penn State Day” is celebrated along Main Street. Penn State Mont Alto Lion Ambassadors will be located in all six art galleries, promoting the university and handing out information and other items from campus. Each of the galleries will feature “Penn State Lives Here” signs and opportunities to answer trivia questions about PSU.PSUMALion

Other highlights of “Penn State Day” will include a children’s story-reading with visual aids, temporary “paw print” tattoos and a special appearance from the Penn State Mont Alto Nittany Lion.

Gallery 20 East

Professional storyteller, Nancy Pritt, will be dressed in period clothing as she entertains audiences at Gallery 20 East with her tales about the history of Mont Alto’s campus, local legends and supposed hauntings in the area. Pritt’s daughter, Andrea, works as the information resources and services support specialist in the campus library.

Center Square

PSUMAJazzEnsembleStudents and faculty members are scheduled to provide the evening’s entertainment.

5:00 – 5:30 p.m. – The Penn State Mont Alto Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Morgan Jenkins, performs from 5:00 to 5:30 on Center Square.

JohnBardi5:30 p.m. – Philosophy professor John Bardi’s “hippy jazz” music, which Bardi describes as “improvised, free-flowing, creative melodies consisting of classics from the 1960s and 1970s.”

Saturday, September 13

Waynesboro Wine Walk LogoThe first “Waynesboro Wine Walk” is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, September 13. This event will provide independent winemakers in the area with an opportunity to showcase their “bottled art” in each of the galleries located in the downtown district. Locally produced flavors such as “Locust Blossom,” “Red Plum” and “Berry Interesting” will be available to sample between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. There will be no charge to taste the wine, but participants must be at least 21 years old.

ACW_color_logo_for_webIn addition to about 10-15 independent wines, Adams County Winery will have representatives inside of Gallery 50 while the “Wine Walk” is being held. Bottles of their product, including the popular “Tears of Gettysburg” and “Rebel Red,” will be for sale. Take a bottle to lunch or dinner at Sapporo’s Reastaurant or Christine Cafe.

BobNorth42 West ARTS Co-OP

1:00 – 4:00 p.m. – The wine won’t be the only thing attracting people to the 42 West ARTS Co-Op on Saturday. Bob North will demonstrate tinsmithing and the creation of night lights and other projects from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. North’s hobby started as an economical Christmas gift in 1974, when he used salvaged tin from turpentine cans to make an electrified lantern for his wife (it’s still in use). Now, North is preparing to pass along information about the skill he’s studied over the years to anyone entering the co-op on Saturday afternoon.

2:00 – 5:00 p.m. – The return of The Lowdown Grasskickers, featuring Brad Munn, Kevin Coldsmith, Jon Ingels and Rob Kollman.

Tim Gotwald and Dan DropkinCeramics Center of Waynesboro

2:00 – 5:00 p.m. – Tim Gotwald on flute and Dan Dropkin on guitar will be performing outside the Ceramics Center.

Sunday, September 14

AcrossThePondCenter Square

1:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Back by popular demand, the Irish music of Across the Pond can be heard in Center Square from 1:00 to 4:00 on Sunday afternoon. The trio’s list of songs range from hauntingly slow airs to high energy jigs and reels.

Together, the galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, fiber arts, sculpture, photographs, furniture, prints and much more. They are open each week as follows:

Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
