“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available.
The galleries will be closed this Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but they will reopen in time for customers to do some holiday shopping on Black Friday.
“Wine Down Friday” receptions, featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. This week’s receptions will feature a “Ladies Night Out” theme, and guests are encouraged to come in and look around while also relaxing with food, drinks and live music. Ladies (and others) may enter their selected, preferred gifts into our new Gift Registry for Christmas Gifts or gifts for any occasion from Gallery 50 or Gallery 20 East. Let our docents show you what we have to offer.
The father and daughter team of Andrew and Nicola Sussman will be providing the music at Gallery 50 this week. The popular duo has performed in the downtown district on a number of occasions since the beginning of Waynesboro’s “Destination ARTS!” initiative last summer. On Friday night, Nicola will play her ukulele and sing standards and folk songs while Andrew accompanies her on keyboard and harmonica.
Brad Munn’s bluegrass and rock rhythms can be heard during the reception scheduled inside of Galley 20 East. A singer-songwriter who uses his vocals, guitar and fiddle to entertain audiences, Munn is also known for his work with The Boro Boogie Pickers and The Lowdown Grasskickers.
Over at the 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Patric Schlee will again be setting the mood with his flute and drums.
All of the performances in the galleries are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Rod Meyer will be working with clay on the potter’s wheel at 42 West ARTS from 1:00 to 3:00 on Saturday afternoon. A native of Oregon, Meyer and fellow artist, Karri Benedict, operate the Willow Creek Pottery studio in Waynesboro, where they find inspiration for their projects in the rolling farmers’ fields and orchards that are easy to find in this area.
Arts enthusiasts may want to mark their calendars for a number of special events planned at the galleries in December.
The list of upcoming activities includes a celebration of the one-year anniversary of The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery (Saturday, December 6), a fundraiser for the purchase of a gas kiln at The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (Friday, December 12) and a new reception known as “Grin and Beer It” inside of multiple galleries on Friday, December 19. Gallery 50
Located at 50 West Main Street, the largest of the galleries, Gallery 50, is filled with hundreds of pieces of art in many media. A wide variety of new artwork is on display at Gallery 50 this weekend. Throughout the weekend, recently opened art shows will be on display inside Gallery 50, including “Winter White” in the east window, “A Study of the Figure” in the west window and the work of faculty members from Baltimore’s Schuler School of Fine Arts in the main gallery. Anyone visiting the gallery will have the opportunity to purchase colorful Bargello wool pillows created by Becky Dietrich, pen and ink drawings from Carrie Dietrich or Kay Ackerman’s latest bracelets. John Mullican’s two oil paintings, “Wood Duck” and “House Wren,” can now be viewed at the gallery, as well as his most recent terracotta bust, “American Indian.” Definitely stop and see the Teddy Bears made of wood.
Katrina Hoopes has continued to paint a more of her favorite dogs from the Antietam Humane Society, and 50% of her commission sales are donated to AHS.
Gallery 20 East
The “Through the Lens” photographers now share this gallery with a group of serious-minded artists known as the “Prometheans.” Composed of regional artists such as Marjorie Tressler, Liz Hurley, Eliane Ambrose and Donna Mason, the “Prometheans” say their purpose is to motivate, inspire and share ideas with anyone who views what they’ve created.
Images captured by photographers such as Rodney Clark, Sue Downin, Chris Lowery, Stefanie Boss, Pat Brezler and Constantine Vioutely can be viewed as part of the “Through the Lens” exhibit at Gallery 20 East.
42 West ARTS Co-Op
Located at 42 West Main Street, 42 West ARTS Co-Op is featuring two exhibits, one is a collection of Abstracts while the other is a grouping of miniatures. Each exhibit is a collection of works from numerous artists. The Co-Op has an extremely wide variety of pieces in a wide array of media, paintings, prints, collage, fabric art, photographs, wind chimes, ceramics, sculpure, and more.
Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery
Located at 10 East Main Street, The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery is an independently operated gallery and school. The CS&G is open during the Destination ARTS! hours with a display gallery of items for sale. They also offer art classes and after-school activities.
