“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available.
Marjorie Tressler returns to Gallery 50 on Thursday afternoon to provide her visitors with a painting demonstration beginning at 1:00.
“Wine Down Friday” receptions, featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro.
Waylon K. Smith will be making music during the reception at Gallery 50. One half of the popular Greencastle-based band, The Positronic Cats, Smith participated in a “Destination ARTS!” Singer-Songwriter Showcase on Center Square in September. He has been praised for his ability to connect with an audience while performing, and on Friday night, that connection starts at 5:30.
Also at 5:30, Patric Schlee can be heard playing flute and drums at 42 West ARTS Co-Op.
Donna Bingaman will begin teaching her first of three oil painting classes at the co-op on Saturday. She is encouraging her students to bring a photo of a pet, loved one or landscape to use as an influence for their creations. The class will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with the next two set for the same time on Saturday, January 17 and Saturday, January 24. For more information, call Bingaman at 717-762-8394.
Photographer Andy Smetzer will be at 42 West ARTS as well on Saturday afternoon. He is set to demonstrate the art of photo composition between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00. Smetzer assembles a library of images depicting items such as clouds, rocks and tree stumps before using Adobe Photoshop computer software to place them together as part of a new creation.
“I particularly like stormy, moody landscapes, and I try to capture that feeling in my shots,” Smetzer explains. “Being part of the 42 West ARTS Co-Op has inspired me to shoot more and learn more.”
The duo of Tom McFarland and Andrew Sussman bring the weekend of entertainment to a close on Sunday afternoon. They’ll be playing a variety of blues tunes and standards inside Gallery 20 East from 2:00 to 4:00.
These performances are supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
David F. Heatwole’s series of paintings known as “Points of Perception” continue to be featured as part of the latest exhibit at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery.
