“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available.
Marjorie Tressler will again be demonstrating the “Old Masters” oil painting technique at Gallery 50 from 1:00 to 4:00 on Thursday afternoon.
“Wine Down Friday” receptions featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. He now makes music alongside fellow musician, Matt Clise, who will join him in the gallery on Friday night.
The sounds of Patric Schlee’s flute, drums and guitar can be heard at the reception at 42 West ARTS Co-Op Friday evening at 5:30 p.m..
Friday – Sunday: Come to The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and watch Mary Ashe-Mahr and other potters demonstrate throwing techniques on the wheel at 13 South Church Street. It’s an amazing sight to see a lump of clay become a beautiful work of art in only minutes.
Also on Saturday, events celebrating Black History Month are planned at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery. Fanny Crawford is scheduled to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at 2:00 p.m.
Then at 2:30 p.m., join Mrs. Renee Emanuel to listen to her riveting story of “Nehemiah Got His Freedom.”
She’ll be followed by historian and author, Ted Alexander, who will lead a presentation entitled, “A Regular Slave Hunt! The Abduction of Free Blacks in Pennsylvania During the Civil War.”
Saturday marks the final opportunity to explore the work of artist David Gibney. His show, “The Crash of the Forgotten American Labor Force,” has been on display at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery for the past several weeks.
Gallery 50 will be the place to be for poetry on Sunday afternoon. Kathleen Renninger, Eliane Ambrose, Becky Dietrich Joseph Weagley and Phyllis McCullough have all either published books or contributed material to magazines in the area. They invite art enthusiasts to come hear them read excerpts of their work between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
These performances are supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
