Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more. This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, July 6, 2016 – Writer’s Forum: 5-7 p.m. 32 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writer’s Forum. Each month the Writer’s Forum meets to share contributions that pertain to the selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling.
Thursday, July 7, 2016 – Gallery Talks: 2 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and Director Marjorie Tressler will be starting a new series of gallery talks in Gallery 50 every Thursday. Each week will feature a discussion on the various regional and local artists featured in Gallery 50, including information on their background, latest works, and art genre. Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.
Friday, July 8, 2016 – Wine Down Friday: 5:30-8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Destination ARTS! will sponsor a musical performance for the general public for free in Gallery 50 each Friday. Each week, a member of the musical community is featured in performance in the Gallery. Wine and light refreshments will be available.
This week, singer, songwriter, and guitarist Ron Nicodemus will be performing a medley of musical genres in Gallery 50. His style includes blues, rock, reggae, and even a little country. Friday, July 8, 2016 – Summer in the Square: 5:30-8 p.m. – Center Square, Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The popular Irish music of Across the Pond will be featured in Center Square this Friday. The band features Michael Morrison (guitar, mandolin, flue and vocals), Chuck Krepley (fiddle, banjo, vocals), and Dan Diviney (whistles, bodhran, vocals). Formed in late 2010, Across the Pond was named one of the Top 20 Celtic folk bands world-wide by Marc Gunn in 2014 and is considered the most booked Celtic band in Central PA. A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Nature enthusiast, Denny Bingaman will demonstrate his process of making decorative gourds. Visitors will be shown his techniques of carving, burning, and dyeing the gourds. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting.
Saturday, July 9, 2016 – Leather Handcrafting: 1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. 42 West ARTS Co-Op member, Barb Peshkin, will be working in leather, handcrafting medieval-style journals and sketch pads. Peshkin’s art focuses mostly on leather crafting, calligraphy and Medieval-style illumination. She also works in gouache paints. After working in the Tuscarora School District for 35 years, she retired and worked for the Council for the Arts in Chambersburg, PA for three years. She is currently a member of the Cumberland Valley Craftsmen Guild and occasionally teaches adult and children’s classes.
