Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more. This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Thursday, July 21, 2016 – Gallery Talks: 2 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and Director Marjorie Tressler will share behind-the-scenes information on the art and history of the artists of Gallery 50. Learn about each artist’s individual technique and even their personal history and artistic inspirations. For more information, call 717-655-2915.
Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

Jon Ingels is a singer/songwriter from Waynesboro, PA and has written songs and performed with several local groups, including the Boro Boogie Pickers. Ingles’ lyrical content is a mixture of storytelling and geographic imagery backed by folk chord patterns, simple melodies, and blues-driven rhythm.
Friday, July 22, 2016 – Book Signing with Dr. Ed Koterba Morgret: 5-8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Visit Gallery 50 on Friday for a special book signing with Dr. Ed Koterba Morgret, author of “The Essential Ed Koterba: A Most Outstanding Newspaperman.” The book chronicles Koterba’s unlikely rise to become a syndicated columnist in Washington, D.C. during the 1950s. Students of journalism and fans of the 1950s will delight in the rich details provided by the author who also happens to be Koterba’s son. Morgret, son of Ed Koterba, was born in Chambersburg, PA in 1952. He holds a BA from Clemson University, an MA from the Catholic University of America, and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was awarded the West Virginia School Psychologist of the year in 2005 and served as president of the school’s Psychologists Association from 2009 to 2010. Today he lives in Hilton Head Island where he enjoys playing jazz piano and tennis.

Dietrich has collected and sung folk songs from England, Scotland, and the United States for many years. She is an active artist and writer and owned and operated A Little Gallery in Mont Alto, PA for 20 years.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Rod Meyer and his wife Karri Benedict will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.
Sunday July 24, 2016 – Songwriters Showcase: 2-5 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Members of the Songwriters Forum will be performing original songs written as part of the group’s writing exercises in the newly opened Music Makers Center. The Songwriters Forum meets on a monthly basis in Waynesboro. Prior to each meeting, a new title or subject is chosen and members are encouraged to write an original song, resulting in unique works that reflect each participant’s preferred musical genre and unique style.
