Destination INNOVATION, an initiative of the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro, will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday, September 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA. The objective of the meeting is to solicit the community’s assistance in developing a permanent “creative technology center” downtown. This would serve as a “maker space” and hub for a series of classes, workshops, lectures, forums, and hands-on learning and project / business-building opportunities.
The committee behind the project is comprised of teachers, tech enthusiasts, engineers, and businessmen. They recognize the skills and talents in the community and surrounding area and are devoting their efforts to help establish Waynesboro area as a place where people can come to share their inspiration and creative innovations. Their intent is to encourage and assist them to open businesses in the greater Waynesboro area.
Destination INNOVATION is a continuation of the successful economic development and revitalization initiative that is Destination ARTS! which has resulted in five galleries/music centers being located in town and free live music and art demonstrations presented every weekend since July 2013.
The public meeting on September 8 is a precursor to the 2nd Annual Destination INNOVATION Exhibition which will explore the past, present, and future of the area’s technological innovation. Free and open to the public, the Exhibition will feature demonstrations and interactive displays of 3D printing, robotics, electric vehicles, drones, CNC routers, and other technologies, as well as historical displays illustrating the area’s rich innovative past. There will also be separate presentations on a variety of topics over the two weekends.
