“Artists in the Woods” Set for Saturday, June 8

WoodsPaintingDennisBlalockA regional artists Fence Show and En Plein Air Demos will be held on Saturday, June 8, (rain date is Sunday, June 9) at 9650 Beaver Creek Church Road in Hagerstown, MD from noon until 4:00 p.m.
“Artists in the Woods” art show and ‘en plein air’ demos will feature 12 independent regional
artists in an outdoor exhibit in this forest setting at the home and studio of Elisabet Stacy-Hurley.
Paintings will be displayed on the fences, in the trees and in the studio. 
Visitors will be able to browse a wide variety of paintings, photographs, art prints, note cards, artist books and handmade pottery, and they can also watch and learn over the shoulder of many well-known artists as they paint. 
      
Artists are: Eliane Ambrose, Margery Benson, Dennis Blalock (who painted the attached painting), Denny Bingaman, Donna Bingaman, Becky Dietrich, Carol Gwin, Bob Schropp, Christine Souders, Elisabet Stacy-Hurley, Marjorie Tressler and Carol Wilks.

Authors’ Book Reading at Christine’s Cafe

The Royers of RenfrewWaynesboro authors, Maxine and Marie Lanser Beck, will be reading excerpts from their latest book, The Royers of Renfrew – Threads of Change, at Christine’s Cafe, located at 81 West Main Street, on Thursday, June 6, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Based on the story of the Royer family who lived on the Pennsylvania German farmstead that is now Renfrew Park in the early part of the 1800s, the Becks’ most recent release is the second in a trilogy.

During the event at Christine’s, they also plan to read portions of their first book, The Royers of Renfrew – A Family Tapestry, as well as provide a sneak preview of their third book, which will be available in September.

Wanted: Artists for a “Gathering of the Arts at Lake Royer”

OneMtnWeb_02BThe One Mountain Foundation is proud to present the first annual Gathering of the Arts at Lake Royer show at the beautiful setting of Lakeside Hall on Lake Royer, on the former Fort Ritchie Army Base, Cascade, Maryland on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The show will feature two and three dimensional juried art.

The Saturday evening’s event will be an opening of the two-day show with a reception for the artists.  Saturday’s admission is $20.00 and will include wine, coffee, tea and a light fare.   The admission for Sunday is $15.00 which includes coffee, tea and a light fare.

Artists interested in joining the show are encouraged to complete and send an application for consideration.   The application can be obtained from the One Mountain Foundation’s website at www.onemountainfoundation.org/2013events, or by calling Alice Humphrey at 717-794-5121, or via e-mail to [email protected]. Applications must be postmarked by August 1, 2013.  Early applications are strongly urged.  Booth space is 8-ft wide x6-ft deep.  Further details are on the application form.

Student Art Show Scheduled to Begin During Second Weekend of May

IMG_0001Artwork created by students from the Waynesboro Area Senior High School and Waynesboro Area Middle School will be on display from Saturday, May 11 through Tuesday, May 14 at the Furniture Market, located at 22 North Church Street.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday from noon until 4:00 p.m.

The art show will then be open on Sunday from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., Monday from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Pignic

A new event in the greater Washington D.C./Baltimore, MD /Harrisburg, PA area this year is The Pignic (full details at www.ThePignic.com ). The event is being held May 25 and 26 at the beautiful Ft. Richie site in Cascade, MD. For those not familiar with the area, Ft. Ritchie was a military installation that was closed some years ago. It is nestled in the mountains along the Mason-Dixon line of Maryland and PA, and is bordered by mountains, lakes, and the Appalachian Trail. We are anticipating 10,000-12,000 people per day at this event.  The event is being held as our annual fundraiser for the Make a Wish Foundation and will include a Kansas City BBQ Association (KCBS) BBQ competition (yes, just like on TV), live music from local and regionally known bands, and an Artist’s Festival.

Renfrew Institute Celebrates Earth Day!

Earth Celebration Day & Festival of Art 2013

Saturday, April 27, 2013, 11a.m. to 4p.m.

Renfrew Park, Waynesboro, PA

Renfrew Institute celebrates spring with environmental exhibits, music, student clothesline display, food stand, and drum circle. At the Festival of Art area artists will display, demonstrate, and sell their works as part of Earth Celebration Day.

During the event, an artist will be presented with the annual “Environmental Artistry Award,” for lifetime achievement in art.

Supervised art activities for children will be ongoing throughout the event. Free admission.

Waynesboro Studio Art Club’s March Meeting Set for Tuesday, March 19

The March meeting of the Waynesboro Studio Art Club will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, located at 117 S. Church St.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Following a brief business meeting, the evening’s guest artist will be Waynesboro’s own Nicole Feree Troup.

A commissioned portrait artist, Nicole studied at Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Illustration.  Her style is contemporary realism, and she specializes in painting custom oil portraits, mostly of children and pets.

Nicole’s work has been in exhibit at a number of locations such as Mercersburg Academy, Mansion House Art Gallery, Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, Kaleidoscope Gallery, Washington County Arts Council exhibit and Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

Nicole is currently a member of the Waynesboro Studio Club, Franklin County Art Alliance and the Valley Art Association.

Aside from her career as a portrait artist, she teaches private art classes in her home studio.

Waynesboro Historical Society will host a book signing and art show at its Oller House headquarters at 138 W. Main St. from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10.
