Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

May 19, 2016 – Oil Painting Demonstration: 2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Marjorie TresslerWaynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and Director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting an oil painting demonstration featuring a large landscape. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

The CVSM Jazz Trio will be performing jazz standards and original compositions this Friday. The group consists of Andrew Sussman (keyboard), Herm Hopple (bass), and Sam Hepfer (drums). May 21, 2016 – Cold-Casting Demonstration: 1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 ColdCastWest Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-op member, Denny Bingaman, will be using a rubber mold made from a previous sculpture in clay to create a new piece using the cold cast method. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and cold metal casting.

Destination ARTS! Announces “Summer on the Square” Activities

Waynesboro, PA – Destination ARTS! will be hosting a summer filled with fun activities, events, and music for the family starting on May 27, 2016.squaremagic

“Last year, we had the idea to move activities out on the square to attract more attention to Destination ARTS! and the galleries,” said Amy Stine, Executive Director of the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro. “Our goal is to continue to expose people to the fantastic artisans, musicians, and local businesses that Waynesboro has to offer right on the square where they can’t miss it.”

Beginning on Friday, May 27, 2016, visitors and locals can expect to see musical guest(s) perform squarebandbeside BB&T bank and Frank’s Pizza every Friday from 5:30-8 p.m. as weather permits. Island Fusion will be the first group to kick off the summer performance schedule with music that combines the style of Jimmy Buffet with traditional island tunes. Various happenings, such as magic acts, face painting, artists’ demonstrations, and performances will continue to occur throughout each weekend. Outdoor activities will end on September 4, 2016.

 

Due to the increased success of Wine Down Fridays, Gallery 50 will continue to host a musical guest on Friday evenings inside the gallery. All Destination ARTS! galleries will still provide demonstrations and classes at their individual locations throughout the year.squareguitar

Hollis Mentzer will demonstrate how he creates his nature prints using absorbent paper and dried plant specimens. Greencastle studio owner and 42 West ARTS Co-op member Laura Lewis Shindle will be painting a landscape in oil for gallery visitors on Saturday. Saturday, April 30, 2016 – Potters’ Wheel Demonstration: 1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Rod MeyerStreet, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Rod Meyer and his wife Karri Benedict will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of functional pieces for the home that is lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

Tresa Paul performs in multiple genres that include rhythm and blues, folk, and classic rock. She also performed as a back-up vocalist with an Elvis Presley tribute show for several years. In 2015, she released an album called “Old Soul” that features a collection of standards and popular music from the 1930s to the 1970s.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. Jon Ingels is a singer/songwriter from Waynesboro, PA and has written songs and performed with several local groups, including the Boro Boogie Pickers. Ingles’ lyrical content is a mixture of storytelling and geographic imagery backed by folk chord patterns, simple melodies, and blues-driven rhythm.

Marti YeagerMarti Yeager is a professional artist and teacher specializing in oils, acrylics, pastels, and water colors. Most recently, Yeager was featured as a solo artist in the Art Association of Harrisburg’s Invitational Show. Yeager has been a Gallery 50 artist and workshop teacher for the past 3 years and is a member of the Penn Woods Print Makers.

Ritma CordiaRitma Cordia is comprised of Marlin Barnes on the marimba and Jane Peatling on the cello. Barnes has performed with the Hagerstown Municipal Band, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and the Shippensburg Festival Orchestra. Peatling plays with the Mercersburg Area Community Chorus and Orchestra and several chamber groups. Both are faculty members at Cumberland Valley School of Music.

Originally from Greencastle, PA, Kabler now lives in Nashville and has released multiple albums with an independent record label. He is now the head of the Hendersonville, TN chapter of Global Songwriters Connection. GSC is an organization that helps songwriters become more successful through education, support, and networking. Joel NewmanWineDone
Join musician Joel Newman for our Wine Down Friday activities in Gallery 50 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Newman has an eclectic music background, playing and studying everything from blues and jazz to funk and classical. He has performed with T.M. Stevens, Dick Wagner, and co-wrote and recorded Tim Curry’s (of Rocky Horror Picture Show) album “Simplicity.” When not performing, Newman teaches music at Duet with Music in Frederick, MD and records demos out of his home studio.

 

Patric Schlee didgeridoo
In 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Patric Schlee will be playing the flute, drums, and other instruments in a relaxed atmosphere from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to join in. While there, be sure to sign up for Schlee’s April 16 didgeridoo class.

Pat Beard Weaving300Pat Beard will demonstrate weaving on the loom from 1 to 3 p.m. in 42 West ARTS Co-Op. Weaving on old-fashioned looms, Beard combines interesting colors and textures to create distinctly unique and pleasingly tactile pieces. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the Cumberland Valley Craft Guild.

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) newest window installation is “All About Color,” featuring Chambersburg contemporary artist Marti Yeager. Artwork by local artists Donna Mason, Carol Miller, and Liz Hurley is also on display. Continuing by popular demand, “Fin, Feathers, and Fur” featuring artists Carol Wilks and Beth De’ Loiselle will continue to be featured in the main gallery with new work being added.

Waynesboro, PA, March 9, 2016: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more. All events are free unless otherwise indicated. This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Marjorie TresslerGallery 50’s Curator/Director Marjorie Tressler will be presenting her weekly oil painting demonstrations from 2 to 4 p.m. in Gallery 50 (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) featuring a large landscape. Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years

Thomas RoueThomas Roue takes his turn entertaining audiences at Gallery 50 (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Roue is based out of Gettysburg and can often be seen performing as the lead singer of Pale Barn Ghosts, whose music has been described as “haunting cemetery folk.” He believes his lyrics speak to the idea “that life, death and love are the only themes that really count.”

Rod MeyerRod Meyer will be working in clay on the potter’s wheel from 1 to 3 p.m. in 42 West ARTS Co-Op (42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268). Meyer and his wife, Karri Benedict, have been making pottery for more than 25 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship with designs that are heavily influenced by function and elegance of form. They work in two distinct glazes – a copper metallic in both matte and luster, and a clear crackle with polychrome highlights. Both Rod and Karri are juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.

Donna BingamanPortraintIn the same gallery from 1 to 4 p.m., gallery co-owner and founder, Donna Bingaman will be teaching an oil painting class focused on composition, color, and values. Bring a photo of a pet, loved one, or landscape to be recreated in oils during the class. Sign-ups are available in 42 West ARTS Co-Op gallery, or by calling 717-762-8394. Bingaman has painted many award-winning portraits, five of which are exhibited at the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as many others in private homes and collections.
