“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available.

The galleries will be closed this Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but they will reopen in time for customers to do some holiday shopping on Black Friday.

“Wine Down Friday” receptions, featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. This week’s receptions will feature a “Ladies Night Out” theme, and guests are encouraged to come in and look around while also relaxing with food, drinks and live music. Ladies (and others) may enter their selected, preferred gifts into our new Gift Registry for Christmas Gifts or gifts for any occasion from Gallery 50 or Gallery 20 East. Let our docents show you what we have to offer.

The father and daughter team of Andrew and Nicola Sussman will be providing the music at Gallery 50 this week. The popular duo has performed in the downtown district on a number of occasions since the beginning of Waynesboro’s “Destination ARTS!” initiative last summer. On Friday night, Nicola will play her ukulele and sing standards and folk songs while Andrew accompanies her on keyboard and harmonica.

Brad Munn’s bluegrass and rock rhythms can be heard during the reception scheduled inside of Galley 20 East. A singer-songwriter who uses his vocals, guitar and fiddle to entertain audiences, Munn is also known for his work with The Boro Boogie Pickers and The Lowdown Grasskickers.

Over at the 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Patric Schlee will again be setting the mood with his flute and drums.

All of the performances in the galleries are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Rod Meyer will be working with clay on the potter’s wheel at 42 West ARTS from 1:00 to 3:00 on Saturday afternoon. A native of Oregon, Meyer and fellow artist, Karri Benedict, operate the Willow Creek Pottery studio in Waynesboro, where they find inspiration for their projects in the rolling farmers’ fields and orchards that are easy to find in this area.

Arts enthusiasts may want to mark their calendars for a number of special events planned at the galleries in December.

The list of upcoming activities includes a celebration of the one-year anniversary of The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery (Saturday, December 6), a fundraiser for the purchase of a gas kiln at The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (Friday, December 12) and a new reception known as “Grin and Beer It” inside of multiple galleries on Friday, December 19. Located at 50 West Main Street, the largest of the galleries, Gallery 50, is filled with hundreds of pieces of art in many media. A wide variety of new artwork is on display at Gallery 50 this weekend. Throughout the weekend, recently opened art shows will be on display inside Gallery 50, including “Winter White” in the east window, “A Study of the Figure” in the west window and the work of faculty members from Baltimore’s Schuler School of Fine Arts in the main gallery. Anyone visiting the gallery will have the opportunity to purchase colorful Bargello wool pillows created by Becky Dietrich, pen and ink drawings from Carrie Dietrich or Kay Ackerman’s latest bracelets. John Mullican’s two oil paintings, “Wood Duck” and “House Wren,” can now be viewed at the gallery, as well as his most recent terracotta bust, “American Indian.” Definitely stop and see the Teddy Bears made of wood.

Katrina Hoopes has continued to paint a more of her favorite dogs from the Antietam Humane Society, and 50% of her commission sales are donated to AHS.

The “Through the Lens” photographers now share this gallery with a group of serious-minded artists known as the “Prometheans.” Composed of regional artists such as Marjorie Tressler, Liz Hurley, Eliane Ambrose and Donna Mason, the “Prometheans” say their purpose is to motivate, inspire and share ideas with anyone who views what they’ve created.

Images captured by photographers such as Rodney Clark, Sue Downin, Chris Lowery, Stefanie Boss, Pat Brezler and Constantine Vioutely can be viewed as part of the “Through the Lens” exhibit at Gallery 20 East.

42 West ARTS Co-Op

Located at 42 West Main Street, 42 West ARTS Co-Op is featuring two exhibits, one is a collection of Abstracts while the other is a grouping of miniatures. Each exhibit is a collection of works from numerous artists. The Co-Op has an extremely wide variety of pieces in a wide array of media, paintings, prints, collage, fabric art, photographs, wind chimes, ceramics, sculpure, and more.

Located at 10 East Main Street, The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery is an independently operated gallery and school. This week’s list of Gallery Events again begins with a pair of painting demonstrations by two of downtown Waynesboro’s most well-known artists.

Marjorie Tressler is up first, putting brush to canvas beginning at 1:00 on Thursday afternoon inside of Gallery 50. She’ll be followed on Friday by Donna Bingaman, who will be painting in oil a few doors down the street at the 42 West ARTS Co-Op. Bingaman’s demonstration is scheduled from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

“Wine Down Friday” receptions, featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and Hot Toddies at The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro.

Bobbi Smith (guitar and vocals), Lisa Donohoe (mandolin and vocals) and Bob Murphy (upright bass), better known as “Mountain Air,” will bring their blend of acoustic contemporary folk and pop country music to Gallery 50 starting at 5:30 on Friday night.

Also at 5:30, Patric Schlee will be playing flute and drums during the “Wine Down” reception at 42 West ARTS Co-Op.

Friday Night, November 21 – As part of Mainstreet Waynesboro’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, Children’s Storytelling will be offered inside of Gallery 20 East between 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. Lori Milach, children’s librarian at the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, will lead the reading in the portion of the gallery housing artwork created by the Prometheans.

Hot toddies are being served at The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro on Friday night. Visitors are invited to come in from the cold, enjoy a warm beverage and see the center’s new holiday decorations.

Saturday, November 22 – Waynesboro’s Annual Christmas Parade Begins at 2:00 PM. We close Main Street to traffic and have a giant parade to welcome Santa Claus to Waynesboro with bands, floats, marching units, majorettes, dancers, and much more. Then, at parade’s end, comes Jolly Old Saint Nicholas himself, accompanied by Mrs. Claus. After the parade stay, visit the galleries and perhaps, enjoy a downtown Waynesboro dinner.

42 West ARTS will be the site of another artist demonstration on Saturday afternoon, when Laura Shindle will be “Painting the Landscape” using oil from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Born and raised in Hagerstown, Shindle studied at the Ringling School of Art in Florida before eventually opening a studio in Greencastle.

Trinity Players Present… A Disney Revue!

Trinity Players present a Disney Revue November 14-16 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Waynesboro, PA. The cast includes representatives from the Waynesboro community and surrounding areas and range in age from five years old through senior citizen. Participants will be singing and dancing their way through classic Disney songs from Peter Pan to Frozen! Popular tunes such as “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid, “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast, “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas, “Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious” from Mary Poppins, “The Circle of Life” from The Lion King, and “Let It Go” from Frozen will be performed along with sixteen additional favorites. The production is being directed by Deb Hollen and accompanied by Valerie Merriman and Bill Sievers. This is a musical event for the whole family!

Ken Jankura

No strangers to the “Destination ARTS!” initiative, Ken Jankura (bass) and Joe Dennison (guitar) will be playing live jazz at Gallery 50 on “Wine Down” Friday evening.

A special reception is planned at Gallery 50, where new art shows will be opening. The east window of the gallery will display “Winter White” while “A Study of the Figure” can be viewed in the west window. Visitors who take a look inside will see projects created by the faculty of the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore. The list of artists contributing their work to the exhibit includes Francesca Guerin, Andrew Guerin, Hans Guerin, Beth De Loiselle, John Patrillo, Fritz Briggs and David Buckley Good.

Gallery 20 East

Waynesboro welcomes The Rolling Coyotes  back on Friday night. Featuring Steve Warner on guitar, ukulele and harmonica, Andy Mosholder on bass and cello and Elliot Simon on piano, accordion and bass, the trio last brought their variety of folk, swing, jazz, country and rock songs to a “Wine Down Friday” event in March. This week, they’ll be performing in Gallery 20 East.

Visitors can listen to their music as they enjoy artwork such as “Through the Lens” photography and paintings by the Prometheans.

Gallery 50

Located at 50 West Main Street, the largest of the galleries, Gallery 50, is filled with hundreds of pieces of art in many media. A wide variety of new artwork is on display at Gallery 50 this weekend. Anyone visiting the gallery will have the opportunity to purchase colorful Bargello wool pillows created by Becky Dietrich, pen and ink drawings from Carrie Dietrich or Kay Ackerman’s latest bracelets. John Mullican’s two new oil paintings, “Wood Duck” and “House Wren,” can now be viewed at the gallery, as well as his most recent terracotta bust, “American Indian.”

Katrina Hoopes has continued to paint a more of her favorite dogs from the Antietam Humane Society, and 50% of her commission sales are donated to AHS.

A new installation, titled “Nature’s Bounty,” is now open in the east window of Gallery 50. The show, with work from Waynesboro-based artists such as Marjorie Tressler, Rodney Clark and Virginia Hair, will run through the middle of November.

Gallery 20 East

The “Through the Lens” photographers now share this gallery with a group of serious-minded artists known as the “Prometheans.” Composed of regional artists such as Tressler, Liz Hurley, Eliane Ambrose and Donna Mason, the “Prometheans” say their purpose is to motivate, inspire and share ideas with anyone who views what they’ve created.

42 West Arts Co-Op

Located at 42 West Main Street, 42 West Co-Op is featuring two exhibits, one is a collection of Abstracts while the other is a grouping of miniatures. Each exhibit is a collection of works from numerous artists. The Co-Op has an extremely wide variety of pieces in a wide array of media, paintings, prints, collage, fabric art, photographs, wind chimes, ceramics, sculpure, and more.

Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery

Located at 10 East Main Street, The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery is an independently operated gallery and school. The CS&G is open during the Destination ARTS! hours with a display gallery of items for sale. They also offer art classes and after-school activities. Throughout the month of Octoberber, the work of stained glass artist Leon Adler will be on display at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery.

Coming November 1st, a new show featuring the works of young, international art student, David Alexandru of Romania. This exhibit is being held in conjuction with iArt Association, an international arts promotion group.

Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

Located at 13 South Church Street, The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro continues to be open to the public every weekend as one of the art galleries featured in Destination ARTS!  A wide variety of beautiful pottery is available for sale on Thursdays 1 – 4 pm, Fridays 5 – 8 pm, Saturdays 12 pm – 6 pm, and Sundays 1 – 4 pm.  For more information about the Center, classes, membership opportunities, and future plans, please email [email protected] or visit the web site.

Just for Kids with Nickole Bricker

Crazy about Turkeys (Ages 5-16) Nov. 15 1:00 – 3:00 $25
Students will create a festive turkey. Younger students will have the advantage of using a familiar tactic to create their turkey while older kids are more challenged as they create a small turkey candy dish. This will be done using various methods such as slab rolling along with making small pinch pots. Feathers and other details can be added for great details to your child’s turkey.

Christmas Ornament (Ages 5-16) December 13 1:00 – 3:00 $25
Students will create an ornament from clay. This will be done using slab building techniques. Students will also have the opportunity to glaze another ornament with various glaze colors. Creativity is utilized while children can take advantage of their ability to make their own ornament by cutting it out of clay.

“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with special events and live music scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East and 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery will also have art and pottery for sale and art classes available. All galleries are open each week from Thursday through Sunday.

Gallery Events for this week include:

Marjorie Tressler’s weekly painting demonstration is set to begin at 1:00 on Thursday afternoon inside of Gallery 50.

“Wine Down Friday” receptions, featuring wine and light refreshments, are scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op and The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro.

The trio known as Mountain Air can be heard during the reception at Gallery 20 East. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the blend of acoustic contemporary folk and pop country music created by Bobbi Smith (guitar and vocals), Lisa Donohoe (mandolin and vocals) and Bob Murphy (upright bass) as they view a variety of photographs, which hang in the section of the gallery known as “Through the Lens.”

The inspirational work of a group of artists from the area who call themselves the “Prometheans” is on display in the other half of Gallery 20 East.

Tim Gotwald (flute and alto flute) and Dan Dropkin (guitar) will be playing a selection of jazz standards down the road at Gallery 50. The two performers were last featured as part of Waynesboro’s first “Wine Walk” last month, and Friday, they will be entertaining audiences indoors among the art on Friday night.

Patric Schlee is set to continue the tradition of providing music on his flute and drums for the reception held at 42 West ARTS Co-Op.

All of the performances in the galleries are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Each workshop provides 2 hours of hands on step by step instructions where you will learn how to make the piece dedicated to that particular workshop.
