Friday and Saturday, May 4 & 5, 2017 – Mother’s Day Pottery Sale:

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Penn State Campus, Mont Alto. Support the artisans of the Nicodemus Center for Ceramic Studies by attending their annual Mother’s Day Pottery Sale at Penn State Mont Alto. A variety of pottery will be on sale as well as herb pots with herbs, succulent, or houseplant of your choice. 5:30 to 8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., , PA 17268. The popular Irish music of Across the Pond is coming back to Music Makers! The band features Michael Morrison (guitar, mandolin, flue and vocals), Chuck Krepley (fiddle, banjo, vocals), and Dan Diviney (whistles, bodhran, vocals). Wine and light refreshments will be served. Formed in late 2010, Across the Pond was named one of the Top 20 Celtic folk bands world-wide by Marc Gunn in 2014 and is considered the most booked Celtic band in Central PA. All members of the trio are passionate about their traditional roots but say their music is also delivered with a modern edge, with a repertoire ranging from hauntingly slow aires to high energy jig and reels, love ballads, and contemporary songs. A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Saturday, April 15, 2017 – Yarn Spinning Demonstration:

1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Weaver Pat Beard will demonstrate spinning fleece into yarn for visitors to the co-op. For more information, call 717-762-8394.

By combining yarns of different colors and textures, Beard is able to create unique and beautiful pieces using an “old-fashioned” loom. After the weaving, each panel is washed before being finished by hand. Beard has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the Cumberland Valley Craft Guild. The Writers Forum meets on the first Wednesday of each month to share contributions that usually pertain to a selected subject. Times and locations vary. Visit the galleries of Destination ARTS! to discover artwork “Eggs” that have been created and hidden by area artists in their preferred artistic medium. Pick up an entry form at any gallery and have it stamped at all four locations for a chance to win a basket of goodies. The winner will be announced at the Artists Connection on April 10, 2017. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting. Bingaman will use his clay sculptures to render rubber molds for cold-casting sculptures in bronze and copper. After casting, a patina is applied and finished off with steel wool and an application of wax.

6:30 p.m. Music Makers – 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Destination ARTS! is starting a new Cabaret-Musical Theater forum on the fourth Monday of each month. Enthusiasts of musical theater can receive feedback on performances and original material. The sessions will also be used to pull together songs three to four times a year in a collaborative performance showcase. This is an evolving initiative that will be shaped by those who attend and offers unique networking opportunities.  A piano and sound system will be available for use. A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

Nelson’s passion for fiber and texture began many years ago, at her mother’s knitting group. She draws a lot of inspiration from nature and by experimenting with different fibers through piecing quilts, spinning yarn, and working at her loom.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work.
