DestinationArts_poster_v6_600“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in downtown Waynesboro this weekend. Six galleries will be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday, August 13

Memorial Park

LegoMovieDusk – Waynesboro’s “Movies in the Park” this week showing “The Lego Movie.” Movie-goers should arrive early — before it gets dark — with blankets or chairs to watch the films under the stars. Free admission and free popcorn will be provided. If it rains, the movie will be shown the following Tuesday. Wayne Driscoll, the borough councilman who spearheaded the idea with help from council and the borough’s recreation committee, said the Rotary Club of Waynesboro has sponsored the entire series this year. Jason Bartholow of Whirl Wind Productions is supplying the equipment.

Thursday, August 14

1:00 PM – Marjorie Tressler’s weekly painting demonstrations continue at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday inside of Gallery 50.

NewHorizonsBandRenfrew Park & Museum

7:00 PM – New Horizon Concert – Regional 50 Member Community Band – Behind the House – Free. The New Horizons Band is a group of senior musicians, celebrating their 17th Anniversary this year. Often referred to as “Hagerstown’s other band,” they number about 50 members and practice Fridays at the Hagerstown YMCA.

Friday, August 15

5:00 – 8:00 PMJon Ingels, who regularly delivers popular performances as part of “Destination ARTS!,” returns to Center Square on Friday night. His blend of bluegrass, country and rock music can be heard beginning at 5:00 p.m.

BenDennisGallery 20 East

5:30 – 8:00 PM – For the second straight weekend, Ben Dennis will provide a soundtrack of Broadway show tunes for anyone enjoying the “Wild Things” exhibit currently on display at Gallery 20 East. He’ll step up to the mic at 5:30 on Friday.

All Week – The new “Wild Things” exhibit at Gallery 20 East will remain on display throughout the weekend.

Patrick McNamee and Erin ReganGallery 50

6:00 – 8:00 PM – Just down the street, the duo of Pat McNamee and Erin Regan will be set up outside of Gallery 50 starting at 6:00. McNamee’s collection of woodwind instruments have combined with Regan’s keyboards and vocals to entertain “Destination ARTS!” audiences in the past, and Friday night’s performance should be no different.

42 West Artists Co-Op

5:00 – 8:00 PM – Another “Wine Down Friday” event is scheduled at 42 West ARTS, with Patric Schlee making music on flute and drums from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, August 16

42 West Artists Co-Op

Donna Bingaman 5 4001:00 PM – Donna Bingaman holds a special painting demonstration at the co-op on Saturday afternoon. The fine artist has had portraits exhibited at art shows held at the Hagerstown Fine Art Museum, and she now proudly displays her work in downtown Waynesboro. Donna will demonstrate her painting techniques with oils at 1:00.

Laura Shindle-Pen & Ink1:00 – 3:00 – Laura Shindle’s pen and ink class continues at the co-op from 1:00 to 3:00. At a cost of $35 (including supplies), participants will learn how to use their pens to create texture, value and mood in a relaxed atmosphere. At the end of the day, they’ll have an impressive piece of artwork to take home and frame.

Treasure Boxes (Ages 5-16) August 16th 1:00 – 3:00 $25
Students will create small boxes out of slab for their tiny treasures such as rocks & jewelry. Taking this session is a great way for your child to be introduced to the Arts and their inner creativity.The price includes all materials and firings.  Ages 5-16, $25.00 per child.  Your check, made payable to NCCS, is due by August 13th, 2014 or with a prior arrangement with the instructor Nickole Bricker. 1:00 – 3:00 PM – High school students with an interest in pursuing a career in visual arts are invited to Gallery 20 East between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 on Sunday afternoon. Nathanael Chastain, a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, will teach students how to improve the quality of their work, properly present it and strengthen their art portfolios as they prepare for the Advanced Placement Art Exam and college admissions.

1:30 – 3:30 – Justin Streletz, tickling the ivories for your listening enjoyment.

Kerensa GrayRed copyOn The Square

2:00 PM – The soulful, jazzy voice of Kerensa Gray, which has earned her a popular reputation throughout the region, will be featured on Center Square starting at 2:00 p.m. Gray, winner of the 20th annual Billie Holiday Vocal Competition, has been compared to the likes of Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Krall. She is currently promoting the release of her first CD, entitled Bliss.

Presbyterian Church

3:00 PM – Attend the read-through of another new theatrical production, “The Pardoner’s Tale“, written by Joseph Theis, a 2013 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown. Now, the 19-year-old will have the opportunity to hear his play, based on one of Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, brought to life by a group of local actors and actresses. The reading begins at 3:00 p.m. inside The Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro, located at 105 East Main Street.

Together, the galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, fiber arts, sculpture, photographs, furniture, prints and much more. They are open each week as follows:

Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
