Waynesboro, PA is continuing its initiative to turn the town into an Arts Destination with a weekend filled with live music and art related activities, including music from Jon Ingels, Kerensa Gray, Nicola Sussman, and Earthsong Ensemble – plus a “Meet the Artist” session with Anton Giroux. From this weekend forward, there will be music every Friday night and other special arts activities or music on most Saturdays and Sundays through December 2013.
On Friday, November 29, from 5 -8 pm, a very special “Black Friday Ladies Night Out” will take place in downtown Waynesboro. The public is invited to relax and celebrate the holidays in three beautiful galleries: Gallery 50 (50 West Main), 42 West ARTS Co-op (42 West Main) and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro at 13 South Church St. Come enjoy wine, refreshments and live music while perusing the galleries full of paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, fiber arts, books, and more. All art is for sale at very reasonable prices, and there are many unique holiday gifts available. And although it is “Ladies Night Out”, Gentlemen are very welcome!
Headlining the event on November 29 from 5 – 8 pm in Gallery 50 will be bluegrass singer-guitarist Jon Ingels. Jon performs with the bluegrass band “The Boro Boogie Pickers” as well as the blues rock outfit “Big Whiskey.” In his solo performances Jon draws from all his influences, ranging from blues to country, rock to reggae, and all points in between. While his acoustic shows are typically stripped down to the basics, Jon has been experimenting with looping technology to layer rhythms and melodies for a one-man band experience sure to keep your foot tapping along and leave you humming a song.
In the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro, 13 South Church St., Nicola Sussman (vocals and ukelele) will perform folk songs and standards. She will be accompanied on some songs by Andrew Sussman (piano).
In 42 West ARTS Co-op, 42 West Main St., Earthsong Ensemble led by Patric Schlee will perform original improvisational music.
On Saturday, November 30, artist Anton (Tony) Giroux will be in Gallery 50 to discuss his Intarsia Art wood sculptures from 2 – 4 pm. Intarsia Art, dating from 15th century Italy, is a form of wood sculpture, using mosaics of wood, which are crafted onto a wooden support. On Sunday, December 1, from 2 – 4, jazz singer Kerensa Gray will be featured. Winner of the 20th Annual Billie Holiday Vocal Competition, Kerensa Gray is often compared to jazz royalty Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and Diana Krall. She has shared the stage with artists such as Isaiah Thomas and opened for Grammy and Dove award winners CeCe Winans and Vickie Winans. She will be accompanied for this appearance by pianist Andrew Sussman and bassist Ken Jankura.
Other musicians and activities are also planned for this very special weekend, and live music and events will be featured every weekend through December 29. Admission to all events and galleries is free of charge. For more information about this and other Destination ARTS! events in Waynesboro visit www.artsalliancegw.org or email [email protected].
