“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in Waynesboro with live music every weekend and events and artist demonstrations scheduled at Gallery 50, Gallery 20 East, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro and The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery. All galleries are open each week from Thursday through Sunday.
Thursday, June 12
Gallery 50
Continuing this week, artist Marjorie Tressler will provide live painting demonstrations inside of Gallery 50 on Thursday afternoons through August. Tressler is an alumnus of The Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, where she studied with fellow artists such as Ann Didusch Schuler and David Buckley Good. Her award-winning portraits have been featured in several solo shows, and her work is part of a permanent collection at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.
Tressler’s continuing series of free sessions will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 on the afternoon of Thursday, June 12. Anyone with an interest in learning more about the old masters approach to painting is invited to participate. For more information, please call 717-762-6791.

Wine Down Friday Tonight at Gallery 50!
Come See the New Show and Meet Friends!
The month of June continues with yet another special edition of “Wine Down Friday!” This Friday will feature special events in several locations. Come downtown, try the wine and snacks, meet friends, view the art and enjoy the music! Then stay for dinner at one of the five downtown restaurants, each very different from the rest.
Gallery 50 West
The music of Shanna Rae will be featured at this week’s “Wine Down Friday” inside of Gallery 50, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Pleasant Hall-native writes music in a variety of styles, including country, pop, folk and blues. Each of Shanna’s songs bring their own personal message of healing, wisdom and inspiration.
Gallery 20 East
The newly opened Gallery 20 East offers “Wine Down Friday” with wine and light refreshments. The “Surfaces” exhibit remains open at Gallery 20 East throughout the weekend. The gallery features the work of painter Ben McAfee, ceramic artist Joan Bontempo and Andrew Gehman, who specializes in several forms of creative media. “Surfaces” will be on display through Sunday, June 22.
42 West Artists Co-Op
A special edition of “Wine Down Friday” is planned at 42 West ARTS this week as Co-Op members present the opening of a miniature and small works show from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The show will feature a variety of creations, including oil paintings, watercolors, photography and clay, all created by artists from across the Tri-State area. Patric Schlee will provide a soundtrack for the event on flute and drums.
Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro
“Wine Down Friday” continues June 13th at the Ceramic Arts Center.
Watch a potter give a demonstration on the wheel and try your hand at creating a hand built clay piece. 5:00 -7:00. Free for Adults and Children. Light refreshments.
Saturday, June 14
Gallery 50
Kent Roberts will be at Gallery 50 on Saturday, appearing as this month’s “2nd Saturday” featured artist. Roberts will conduct a demonstration using watercolor paints from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
42 West Artists Co-Op
Laura Lewis Shindle will be doing a water color demonstration on Sat. the 14th. She is fascinated with nature’s beauty and spends a lot of time outdoors observing and studying its forms, colors and textures. Her favorite subjects are rustic buildings, still life and flowers. Shindle studied 11 years under the instruction of Clyde Roberts and Bruce Etchison at the Washington County Museum of Fine Art. She trained at Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Fla., where she majored in commercial art. She is a past president of the Waynesboro Studio Club and holds memberships in the Valley Art Associate, Chambersburg Art Alliance, Greencastle Area Arts Council and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society. Shindle also teaches beginner classes in Greencastle.
Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro
Also on Saturday – The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro is offering a “Wild About Stripes” pottery workshop for children from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. During that time, instructor Nickole Bricker will teach the basics of pottery making, and the kids will have an opportunity to decorate small pots with zebra stripes using paper resist techniques in a variety of colors. The class is designed for children over the age of 5, and the cost is $25 per participant.
Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery
Meanwhile, over at The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery, the oil paintings of Donna Bingaman and wildlife photography of her husband, Denny Bingaman, can be viewed during the entire month of June.
