Destination ARTS! Free Performances and Events for July 28-31, 2016

Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Scavenger-collageNow thru Sept. 2 – Children’s Scavenger Hunt: Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Children are invited to participate in a Destination ARTS! Scavenger Hunt starting at Gallery 50. As “DA Detectives,” they will solve clues relating to the works of art on display. Prizes will be awarded upon completion of the scavenger hunt, which will take them to four galleries clustered within two blocks. Successful detectives will also be eligible to win a grand prize to be drawn on September 2.

Marjorie TresslerThursday, July 28, 2016 – Oil Painting Demonstration: 2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and Director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting an oil painting demonstration featuring a large landscape. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

Ken Jankura and Joe Dennison2Friday, July 29, 2016 – Summer in the Square: 5:30-8 p.m. – Center Square, Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. The Ken Jankura Jazz Trio featuring Ken Jankura (vocals and upright bass), Joe Dennison (guitar), and Bob Jones (drums) will be playing jazz standards in Center Square. The group is well-known throughout the region and has been playing contemporary jazz, blues, and other genres for more than 20 years. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Saturday, July 30, 2016 – Portrait Painting Demonstration: 12-2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – donna-bingaman42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. 42 West ARTS Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Denny Bingaman 2Saturday, July 30, 2016 – Mold Making Demonstration: 1-3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Nature enthusiast, Denny Bingaman, will show visitors how to make a mold using a sculpture previously created of a coyote family. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting.

Sunday, July 31, 2016 – The Wayne Band Concert: 2 p.m. – Center Square, Main Street, Waynesboro, PA The Wayne Band (3)17268. The Wayne Band will perform traditional concert band music at Center Square. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Organized in 1899, the Wayne Band is one of the oldest community bands in Pennsylvania and is currently directed by Daniel Deatrich. Membership is open to all musicians with the ability to play high school level music. Rehearsals are year-round every Monday from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Town Hall Council Chamber in Waynesboro, PA.

Gallery 50Gallery 50’s (50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) newest window installation is “All About Color,” featuring Chambersburg contemporary artist Marti Yeager. Artwork by local artists Donna Mason, Carol Miller, and Liz Hurley is also on display. Continuing by popular demand, “Fin, Feathers, and Fur” featuring artists Carol Wilks and Beth De’ Loiselle will continue to be featured in the main gallery with new work being added.


42WestARTSW42 West ARTS Co-Op (42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) presents their new show, “Living Water.” Artwork by co-op members will be on display and for sale that features each artist’s interpretation of the theme. Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
