“Destination ARTS!” Summer 2014 – Week 7
Thursday, August 7 – Sunday, August 10
“Destination ARTS!” activities continue in downtown Waynesboro this weekend. Six galleries will be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Tuesday, August 5
Memorial Park
6:30 – 8:30 PM – The Waynesboro Police Department will host an event for the 31st annual National Night Out to heighten crime awareness and prevention. Activities will include an emergency vehicle display, bike registration, kickball games, bowling with DUI goggles, music, McGruff the Crime Dog, display booths, car seat installations, free hotdogs, pizza, chips and water.
Thursday, August 7
Gallery 50
1:00 – 4:00 PM – Marjorie Tressler’s weekly painting demonstration will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday inside of Gallery 50.
Friday, August 8
Music On the Square
5:00 – 8:00 PM – Audiences are in for a treat on Friday night as the Irish music of Across the Pond fills the air in Center Square. “The most booked Celtic band in Central PA” features Michael Morrison (guitar, flute, mandolin, vocals), Chuck Krepley (fiddle, guitar, vocals) and Dan Diviney (whistles, bodhran, vocals). All members of the trio are passionate about their traditional roots but say their music is also delivered with a modern edge, with a repertoire ranging from hauntingly slow airs to high energy jigs and reels, love ballads and contemporary songs. Across the Pond begins performing at 5:00 p.m.
Gallery 50 Music
5:00 – 8:00 PM – J. “Mudcracker” Parks lives and loves music. A 20 year veteran of the local music scene and beyond, he has been shouting the blues and singing out joy for the people. Delivering a mix of original music and eclectic covers, he will surely move you. He will be performing outside of Gallery 50 beginning at 5:00 PM, Friday.
Gallery 20 East Music
6:00 – 8:00 PM – The Hagerstown Community College String Ensemble will present “Pop Go the Strings” at Gallery 20 East starting at 6:00 on Friday night. Directed by Deborah Stotelmyer, this particular program contains a wide range of music, from Henry Mancini to Billy Joel, to movie favorites from “Hatari!” and “Ghost.”
Gallery 42 Artists Co-Op
5:00 – 8:00 PM – Patric Schlee will again be playing flute and drums at 42 West ARTS Friday from 5:00 to 8:00.
Renfrew Park and Museum
Civil War Encampment, August 8, 9 & 10. Have an immersive Civil War experience. Free admission.
Beck and Benedict Hardware
7:00 – 10:00 PM – Friday Night Bluegrass Jam – Admission $4.00.
Saturday, August 9
Gallery 42 Artists Co-Op
1:00 PM – On Saturday, 42 West ARTS is the site of Donna Bingaman’s latest painting demonstration. The fine artist will work with oils beginning at 1:00 p.m. A graduate of the Washington School of Art, Bingaman is an impressionist and realist who blends originality with tradition, winning several awards along the way.
1:00 – 3:00 PM – Also at the co-op on Saturday afternoon, Laura Shindle will be teaching a pen and ink class from 1:00 to 3:00. Participants will learn how to make different marks with their pens to create texture, value and mood, much like what can be seen in a nostalgic black and white photo. The cost for the class is $35, which includes supplies.
Music On the Square –
First “BLUES JAM” Live!
4:00 PM – Later on Saturday, a group of musicians will congregate on Center Square for the First Destination ARTS! Blues Jam. The line-up includes Brad Munn, Jon Ingels, Kevin Coldsmith, Andrew Sussman and Edgar Myers, with the possibility that other talented entertainers may stop by. The jamming starts at 4:00 p.m.
Renfrew Park and Museum
12:00 – 4:00 PM – Royer Farmstead Tours – “Walk Back In Time” as you tour the farmstead with guides in period clothing Adults – $8.00, Seniors – $7.00
Beck and Benedict Music Theater
7:00 PM – Bluegrass Concert – Kody Norris and the Watauga Mountain Boys from Mountain City, Tennessee – Admission is $14.00
Sunday, August 10
Music On the Square
1:30 PM – The weekend of music comes to a close on Sunday with The Quincy Duo playing on the square at 1:30 p.m.
Gallery 20 East
1:30 PM – Ben Dennis, a recent graduate of the Waynesboro Area Senior High School, performing Broadway show tunes and current pop hits in Gallery 20 East at 1:30.

All Week – The new “Wild Things” exhibit at Gallery 20 East will remain on display throughout the weekend.
