5:30 to 8 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Patric Schlee will entertain visitors with a variety of musical instruments, including the didgeridoo, flute, and drums.

While there, be sure to look for a new exhibit of work displayed throughout August by Becky Dietrich which will include paintings and etchings of her travels around the globe. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Friday, August 18, 2017 – Live Music Friday:

5:30 to 8 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.

The popular Irish music of Across the Pond is coming back to Music Makers! The band features Michael Morrison (guitar, mandolin, flue and vocals), Chuck Krepley (fiddle, banjo, vocals), and Dan Diviney (whistles, bodhran, vocals). Wine and light refreshments will be served. Formed in late 2010, Across the Pond was named one of the Top 20 Celtic folk bands world-wide by Marc Gunn in 2014 and is considered the most booked Celtic band in Central PA. All members of the trio are passionate about their traditional roots but say their music is also delivered with a modern edge, with a repertoire ranging from hauntingly slow aires to high energy jig and reels, love ballads, and contemporary songs. 12 to 2 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Donna Bingaman, will be demonstrating the art of portrait painting. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Aug. 19, 2017 – Face Sculpting Demonstration:

Facilitated by Brad Munn, the Open Mics occurred every other Wednesday and were intended to give local musicians a platform to polish their performance skills and try new songs. Featured performers will be Brian Lutz, Ginny Gill, Brian Shermeyer, Ethan Larsh, Kevin Trayno, and Brad Munn.

Caldwell has been involved with jewelry making and crafting since she was a teenager. She also dabbled in pottery, calligraphy, photography, and stained glass but her passion has always been in jewelry. She taught herself through trial and error and learning through books and online resources. Visit the co-op to view her selection of work which includes pendants, chains, rings, earrings, and bracelets.

Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 – Weaving Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Pat Beard will do a demonstration weaving kitchen towels and table runners on the loom for visitors to the co-op. For more information, call 717-762-8394.

By combining yarns of different colors and textures, Beard is able to create unique and beautiful pieces using an “old-fashioned” loom. After the weaving, each panel is washed before being finished by hand. Beard has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the Cumberland Valley Craft Guild. , Waynesboro, PA 17268. Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writers Forum meeting on the second-floor classroom of the library. For information on how to join the group, please contact Becky Dietrich at 717-749-3831 or [email protected].

The Writers Forum meets on the first Wednesday of each month to share contributions that usually pertain to a selected subject. Mountain Air is comprised of Bobbi Smith (guitar and vocals), Bob Murphy (upright bass), and Lisa Donohoe (mandolin and vocals). Smith and Donohoe began performing together as members of the Blue Ridge String Band and later, Back Porch Music in the 1990s. When they formed their own group, Mountain Air was born with Murphy later joining in 2009. The band performs at festivals, private concerts, wineries, special occasions, and art galleries.

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-Op member, Ed Beard, will be demonstrating wood burning designs of eagles and feathers this Saturday. For more information, contact the co-op at 717-762-8394.

Beard has been a woodworker for the past 50 years and has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Florida and is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group, and the Woodworking Advisory Board.

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. All readers are invited to join the book club as they discuss the bestseller The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. A winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the 2017 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence, the novel tells the story of Cora and Caesar, two slaves who make a bid for freedom from their Georgia plantations by following the Underground Railroad, which in the novel is an actual subway as opposed to a series of safe houses and secret routes. Singer-songwriter Destination ARTS! is presenting a Cabaret-Musical Theater Showcase that will feature a wide variety of songs from Broadway musicals as well as standards and lesser known gems. Featured singers will include Elisabeth Turchi, Deb Hollen, Gillian Austin, Kay Yaukey, Donovan YaukeyPatrick McNamee, Rennes Carbaugh, and Aaron Trusky, accompanied by pianist Valerie Merriman. A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

July 29, 2017 – Wildlife Photography Discussion:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Denny Bingaman will be having an open discussion session about his photo techniques on capturing the perfect wildlife shot. A photo blind will be set up along with his tripods, lenses, and other photo equipment.

Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting. He is a member of the Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. His photography is on permanent display at the Wildwood Wildlife Sanctuary and Meritus Medical Center.

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West Arts Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Rod Meyer and his wife, Karri Benedict, will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. For more information call 717-762-8394.

Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

Koons relies on wildlife and rural life on the farm as inspirations for her paintings. Watercolor is her preferred medium as it allows her the pure spontaneity and freshness that she strives for in her work. She is a member of the Waynesboro Studio Art Club, Franklin County Art Alliance, and the Valley Art Association.

By combining yarns of different colors and textures, Beard is able to create unique and beautiful pieces using an “old-fashioned” loom. After the weaving, each panel is washed before being finished by hand. Beard has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the Cumberland Valley Craft Guild. Saturday, July 8, 2017 – Bead Embroidery Demonstration:

1 to 3 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op – 42 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Kay Ackerman will be in the gallery presenting a demonstration on the ancient art of beading. Ackerman uses shaped beads made in the Czech Republic as well as mixed media including painted metal filigree and glass tiles done in nail polish. Ackerman is an associate professor of History at Wilson College and has been beading for 25 years. Her work has been shown at the Bogigian Gallery and the Chambersburg Council for the Arts. Saturday, July 8, 2017 –Second Saturday Chill Out Downtown:

Times and locations vary. Mainstreet Waynesboro, Destination ARTS! and the businesses of downtown Waynesboro are planning an afternoon of fun activities and special summer promotions for our community. Visit our Chill Out station from 2 to 4 p.m. at the M&T parking lot to meet members of the Waynesboro Fire Department who will be giving tours of their firetruck. A van from Sweet Frog will also be around selling frozen yogurt along with water from Roaring Spring Water. Kids wear a bathing suit because you might get wet! The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro will have a table set up for kids to create a free pottery craft to paint and decorate from 2 to 4 p.m. at the corner of South Church street and Main Street. A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 South Church

Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268) brings together area potters of all skill levels and ages offering classes, workshops, and pottery sales.
