Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 – Cold-Cast Demonstration:

Denny-BearCast_ASP8027-901-2:30 p.m. 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery – 42 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Co-op member, Denny Bingaman, will be using a rubber mold made from a previous sculpture of a dragonfly in clay to create a new piece using the cold cast method. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting. Bingaman will use his clay sculptures to render rubber molds for cold-casting sculptures in bronze and copper. After casting, a patina is applied and finished off with steel wool and an application of wax.

Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 – Writers Forum:

Each month the Writers Forum meets to share contributions that pertain to the selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects – be it prose, memoirs, or story-telling.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. Scavenger Hunt starting at Gallery 50. As “DA Detectives,” they will solve clues relating to the works of art on display. Prizes will be awarded upon completion of the scavenger hunt, which will take them to four galleries clustered within two blocks. Successful detectives will also be eligible to win a grand prize to be drawn on September 2.

The Pale Barn Ghosts will be bringing their blend of Americana, acoustic, and Indie rock to Center Square for the last Summer in the Square performance of 2016. Rod Meyer and his wife Karri Benedict will be working in clay and demonstrating how they create stoneware and decorative Raku pottery. Rod Meyer and Karri Benedict have been making pottery together for more than 37 years. Their work shows a great respect for fine craftsmanship and their sense of design is strongly influenced by function. They produce a full line of pieces for the home that are lead-free and dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. They are both juried members of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and own and operate Willow Creek Pottery.

Beard has been a woodworker for the past 50 years and has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Florida and is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group, and the Woodworking Advisory Board.

Lowdown Grasskickers25:30-8 p.m. – Center Square, Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Don’t miss one of the last summer performances of the year featuring the popular Waynesboro group, the Lowdown Grasskickers. The bluegrass quartet is comprised of Jonathan Ingels (mandolin, guitar), Brad Munn (guitar, fiddle), Rob Kollman (banjo), and Kevin Coldsmith (bass). The group was formed in 2013 as an off-shoot of the Boro Boogie Pickers. Their music, while rooted in bluegrass, often crosses into other boundaries as well, touching on country, rock, folk, and blues, with extended jams and improvisation when the mood strikes.

InnovationSign    Destination INNOVATION, an initiative of the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro, will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday, September 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 46 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA. The objective of the meeting is to solicit the community’s assistance in developing a permanent “creative technology center” downtown. This would serve as a “maker space” and hub for a series of classes, workshops, lectures, forums, and hands-on learning and project / business-building opportunities.

They recognize the skills and talents in the community and surrounding area and are devoting their efforts to help establish Waynesboro area as a place where people can come to share their inspiration and creative jet-engine-3979LOWinnovations. Their intent is to encourage and assist them to open businesses in the greater Waynesboro area.

Destination INNOVATION is a continuation of the successful economic development and revitalization initiative that is Destination ARTS! which has resulted in five galleries/music centers being located in town and free live music and art demonstrations presented every weekend since July 2013.

Destination INNOVATION (1)The public meeting on September 8 is a precursor to the 2nd Annual Destination INNOVATION Exhibition which will explore the past, present, and future of the area’s technological innovation. Free and open to the public, the Exhibition will feature demonstrations and interactive displays of 3D printing, robotics, electric vehicles, drones, CNC routers, and other technologies, as well as historical displays illustrating the area’s rich innovative past. A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

David Wayne Bowers has been performing magic since 1996. He is a member of The Society of American Magicians and was recently installed as the National President at the S.A.M Annual Balloons by Miss PenelopeConvention in Philadelphia. He is also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and the Magicians Alliance of Eastern States. He has performed in various “King Magic Ring” presentations, including “The Festival of Magic” at the Maryland Theater and the Apollo Theater in Martinsburg, WV. Bowers has also appeared at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. for their children’s day festival. “Miss Penelope” (Judy Bowers) is a retired WASD teacher who has 35 years of experience working with children. In addition to creating balloon animals, she also assists with the magic shows.

Caldwell has been involved with jewelry making and crafting since she was a teenager. She also dabbled in pottery, calligraphy, photography, and stained glass but her passion has always been in jewelry. Linwood E. (Woody) Payne has been working at the keyboard since the age of eight. He was the Minister of Music for two churches for 14 years. In 2000, he became involved with the Chambersburg Community Theatre, Inc. He is the founder and producer of CCT’s daughter organization, Cumberland Valley Sampler; a family-friendly, musical-variety show, presented annually.

Formed in late 2010, Across the Pond was named one of the Top 20 Celtic folk bands world-wide by Marc Gunn in 2014 and is considered the most booked Celtic band in Central PA. After just two gatherings, the Artists’ Connection has expanded into a group of artists representing all of the arts in Gallery 50 on the second Monday of each month. Artists now have the opportunity to share ideas, discuss art and the newest techniques they have learned, mentor younger artists, and generally inspire one another. Waynesboro, PA: Destination ARTS! activities continue in Waynesboro, PA with art exhibits and special events scheduled at Gallery 50, 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Through the Lens & Beyond, and the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro. The galleries feature oil paintings, watercolors, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, photographs, furniture, and more.  This weekend, they will be open on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Gallery 50 and 42 West ARTS Co-Op only), Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Scavenger-collageNow thru Sept. 2 – Children’s Scavenger Hunt: Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Children are invited to participate in a Destination ARTS! Scavenger Hunt starting at Gallery 50. As “DA Detectives,” they will solve clues relating to the works of art on display. Prizes will be awarded upon completion of the scavenger hunt, which will take them to four galleries clustered within two blocks. Successful detectives will also be eligible to win a grand prize to be drawn on September 2.

Marjorie TresslerThursday, July 28, 2016 – Oil Painting Demonstration: 2-4 p.m. Gallery 50 – 50 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Curator and Director Marjorie Tressler will be conducting an oil painting demonstration featuring a large landscape. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

A graduate of the Washington School of Arts, Bingaman is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and has won several awards for her work. In 2002, she was featured in a solo show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Her portraits are currently displayed in the Chambersburg Court House and Annex as well as in private collections.

Nature enthusiast, Denny Bingaman, will show visitors how to make a mold using a sculpture previously created of a coyote family. Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro, PA who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography, gourd carving, and sculpting.

Organized in 1899, the Wayne Band is one of the oldest community bands in Pennsylvania and is currently directed by Daniel Deatrich. Membership is open to all musicians with the ability to play high school level music. Rehearsals are year-round every Monday from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Town Hall Council Chamber in Waynesboro, PA.
