Hans Guerin’s work has been displayed and won awards in exclusive exhibitions and competitions throughout the United States and internationally, including Greenhouse Gallery’s Salon International, the Legacy Gallery’s Scottsdale Salon, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society’s “Best of America” salons, and the Oil Painters of America National show. Guerin’s artwork has also appeared several books, including three volumes of Northlight Book’s “Strokes of Genius,” the American Art Collector, the Artist, Art and Beyond, and the International Artist Magazine, which featured a 10-page spread on Guerin and his artist wife, Beth de Loiselle. Several new works by Guerin have recently been added to Gallery 50.

Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro announces New Executive Director and New Board Members

 

The Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro (AAGW)

Kathyrn Gratton

announces Kathyrn Gratton as its new Executive Director, with her first day beginning January 22, 2018. In this position, Gratton will coordinate community outreach, oversee the two artistic spaces that operate under the AAGW, and promote programs that align with Destination Arts. The AAGW also welcomes Samantha Wolfe, Chastity Wantz, Brian Shermeyer, and Lesley Quesada as new board members.

AAGW Board President Elena Kehoe says, “Kathyrn’s selection as Executive Director will have a very positive impact on the Arts Alliance.” Kehoe adds, “Kathyrn has shown tremendous dedication to the Tri-State business community through her professional and volunteer experiences. In addition, we are excited to bring on new board members to further our mission. The Arts Alliance is looking forward to new ways to promote the arts in the community.”

Kathyrn Gratton is a lifelong resident of Greencastle, PA. She has 8 years of nonprofit leadership experience, and also currently serves as the Chairperson for the local SCORE Chapter and as a Bold Futures Mentor for Girls Inc. of Washington County. She also teaches entrepreneurship and marketing to small businesses as a Certified Small Business Mentor.

Since 2012, The Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro has worked to encourage a thriving arts culture in the Greater Waynesboro community. The goal of the organization is to bring together area artists, musicians, arts organizations, businesses, government, and arts lovers to foster better communication and cooperation in support of the arts. It is our belief that a strong arts community is key to improved quality of life and vibrant economic development.  In addition to promoting the arts, the AAGW is responsible for the operation and success of Gallery 50 and Music Makers both located in downtown Waynesboro.

6:30 p.m. Music Makers – 46 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA. Participants encouraged to write a song, lyrics, or instrumental piece to share, using the chosen prompt for the month. This month the prompt is “FIRE!” The prompt is a starting point for your song. It may be used as the song title, a lyric, or simply as inspiration for your song. All genres welcome. January Featured Artist at Gallery 50 – Hans Guerin

Hans Guerin’s work has been displayed and won awards in exclusive exhibitions and competitions throughout the United States and internationally, including Greenhouse Gallery’s Salon International, the Legacy Gallery’s Scottsdale Salon, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society’s “Best of America” salons, and the Oil Painters of America National show. Guerin’s artwork has also appeared in several books, including three volumes of Northlight Book’s “Strokes of Genius,” the American Art Collector, the Artist, Art and Beyond, and the International Artist Magazine, which featured a 10-page spread on Guerin and his artist wife, Beth de Loiselle. Several new works by Guerin have recently been added to Gallery 50.

The Steve Warner Trio offers a unique blend Americana-flavored music that is rooted in traditional folk and country with hints of bluegrass, swing and classic pop. Steve plays guitar, ukulele, and harmonica; Andy Mosholder plays bass and cello; and Rob Schuweiler adds mandolin and guitar. Warner’s songs are spiced with humor, emotion and vivid imagery. A common thread is that they are universally accessible, with memorable themes and melodies.

has been playing his guitar for people since 1979. For longer than a decade, he has been performing in this area with his band, Lucky Punk. Driscoll’s solo shows are a mix of Lucky Punk standards, original songs and off-the-cuff improvisation. He plays an electric guitar, and is currently taking great care to curate his tone in the “Classic Fender Sound.”

, Waynesboro, PA. Artist Janette Koons demonstrates watercolor painting techniques, which allow for spontaneity and freshness in her work. She often discovers new color or composition as a painting develops, not always knowing how the painting will evolve.

Smith is a singer/songwriter and one half of The Positronic Cats. He writes progressive folk tunes about love, revenge, and the future, and is inspired by David Bowie, Nick Cave, Radiohead, and The Decemberists. 

Eli August’s music features percussive guitar, banjo and delicately-crafted lyrics. His Dark Americana music is devoted to romantics and those with a certain longing for the past. Eli will have you tapping your foot, singing along and reminiscing of your own long-ago journeys.

Writers of all genres are welcome to join the monthly Writers Forum, meeting on the second-floor classroom of the library. The theme this month is the trials and tribulations and joys of aging. The Writers Forum meets on the first Wednesday of each month to share contributions that usually pertain to a selected subject. After the initial ‘round and round’ contributors can share works on other subjects—be it prose, memoirs, or storytelling. Visitors are welcome, as well as ideas for future meetings.

Jon Ingels is a singer/songwriter from Waynesboro, PA and has written songs and performed with several local groups, including the Boro Boogie Pickers. Ingles’ lyrical content is a mixture of storytelling and geographic imagery backed by folk chord patterns, simple melodies, and blues-driven rhythm.

Main St., Pamela Soaring Raven demonstrates the basic techniques of book binding, including the use of templates, sewing with waxed linen thread, preparing the text block, creating a solid case cover, and putting the text block and cover together.
