Donna Bingaman
will be demonstrating oil painting at 42 West ARTS from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A native of Waynesboro, PA, she is an impressionist, realist, and a blender of originality and tradition, winning many best of shows and numerous other awards for her portraits and other subjects from flowers to genre, including sculptures in bronze. Donna is a graduate of the Washington School of Art and has studied with several regionally and nationally artists.

, Gallery 50 curator/director, will be back again doing her weekly oil painting demonstration from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, featuring a portrait of Carol. Marjorie studied at the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, as well as with several prominent local artists.

AcrossThePondThe popular Irish music of Across the Pond will be featured in Gallery 50 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. “The most booked Celtic band in Central PA” features Michael Morrison (guitar, mandolin, flue and vocals), Churck Krepley (fiddle, banjo, vocals), and Dan Diviney (whistles, bodhran, vocals). All members of the trio are passionate about their traditional roots but say their music is also delivered with a modern edge, with a repertoire ranging from hauntingly slow aires to high energy jig and reels, love ballads, and contemporary songs.

will feature a new show featuring the paintings and ceramics of Michael Minster, presenting a collection of his work created over the past 18 years. The show will run during regular gallery hours for two weeks only, closing on January 24.

There will be a reception with the artist on Saturday, January 16. The show will run for two weeks only and will close on January 24.

 

Flowers-snow1-6281The artists at 42 West ARTS Co-op will present a new winter show, “Let it Snow”. Featured artists are Andy Smetzer (photographer), Donna Bingaman (oil painting), Lorie Linthicum (creative pottery), Tom McFarland (painting), Denny Bingaman (photography), Rod and Karri Benedict (pottery), Ed Beard (wood burning), Hollis Mentzer (nature printing), Laura Shindle (painting), Bob North (tinsmithing), Jennifer Caldwell (silver jewelry), and Debra Woods (dolls and folk art). A reception will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Patric Schlee will be creating original improvisational music on flute and drums at 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The public is invited to join in.

Denny Bingaman

From 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in 42 West ARTS Co-op, Denny Bingaman will be demonstrating cold cast metal sculpting of wildlife in a rubber mold made from the original work. Denny is a native of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, who photographs birds and wildlife in the local area as well as other parts of the country. He started into photographing wildlife about 30 years ago, and has filed some 65,000 images of birds and other wildlife.

Mike Minster (2)An artist reception will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in Gallery 20 East to celebrate the opening of a new show featuring the painting and ceramics of Michael Minster. The show will present a collection of his work over the past 18 years. Minster’s art is abstract, colorful, animated, decorative, and thoughtful.. He notes his influences as “Picasso, Warhol, Kitsch art, and street art to name a few. I will have painting small and large, and a wide variety of ceramics objects on display.” His work will be available to view through January 24.

Gallery 50 is presenting three new shows celebrating the Holiday/Winter season. Over 80 new pieces of art are being featured. The west window gallery theme is “Winter White”, and the east window gallery will present “It’s a Wonderful Still Life”. The main gallery will showcase “Fins, Feathers and Fur,” featuring artist, Carol Wilks and her animal paintings rendered in pastel. Several artists will be in the gallery and available to discuss their work.

WRITER'S FORUMThe Writers Forum, sponsored by the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro/Destination ARTS!, will hold its monthly meeting at Gallery 20, 20 E Main Street, Waynesboro, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  The theme for the January meeting will be “Most Memorable Teachers — either favorable or negative”  After the initial ‘round and round’ as members read their contributions, they will then read any subject they’re currently working on – be it prose, poetry, memoirs or story-telling.  Interested writers are invited to join the group. , Gallery 50 curator/director, will be back again doing her weekly oil painting demonstration from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, featuring a portrait of Carol.  Marjorie studied at the Schuler School of Fine Arts, as well as with several prominent local artists.

Kathy Wiebel42 West ARTS Co-op will introduce a new artist!  Kathleen Hansen-Wiebel has been designing and making custom, one of kind ornamental carvings for over 35 years.  After completing a five year apprenticeship study with renowned master carver Konstantinos Papadakis in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she moved to Hagerstown, Maryland in 1980 and set up a small studio in her home.  From there she has been creating furniture, architectural elements, frames, mirrors, decorative panels, restorative carvings for furniture companies, cabinetmakers, and private individuals.  Utilizing the one hundred plus hand chisels and gouges she has at her disposal, her carvings represent a broad range of styles – from Victorian, Chippendale, Rococo, Louis XIV, and other archaic styles, to the more modern Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts genres.  Her carvings on a multi-million dollar home in Tempe, Arizona have been featured on HGTV’s  “America’s 10 Most Amazing Kitchens”.

From 5:30-8:00 pm, Jon Ingels will be performing at Gallery 50. Jon plays bluegrass, country, and rock (vocals and guitar). He is a singer-songwriter for three different groups: Big Whiskey, Blackwater 4, and the Lowdown Grasskickers, as well as being a solo performer.

AntietamHeritageNo1Gallery 50 will also be presenting the first volume of the annual hard bound magazine “Antietam Heritage” by the Antietam Historical Association. Book singing and reception will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  Stories being published in this first volume include, William Henry Singer Jr the founder of the Washington Co. Museum of Fine Arts. by Jean Woods, The Adventure of Margie Ripple Part 1: A Dubious Distinction by Todd Dorsett, Sharpsburg and the Battle Field Farms by Ted Alexander are but a few of the very impressive material covered by these distinctive authors. Please come and join us in congratulating these fine authors and have a personally autographed copy signed by them.

Wood Burning Techniques

Ed Beard with EagleFrom 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Ed Beard will be demonstrating wood burning techniques for creating feathers and animals in 42 West ARTS Co-OpEd Beard is an Educator/Artist and woodworker for 50 years. A graduate of St Johns College and University of Florida, he has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen – Cumberland Valley Chapter, the Lincoln Highway Heritage group and a member of Woodsmith’s advisory board.   He notes:  “I enjoy working with wood species native to Pennsylvania to create functional art showing the natural grain and finish of the wood.”

Jason KablerJason Kabler will be featured in Gallery 50 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  Jason  is a singer, songwriter, and Nashville recording artist originally from Greencastle PA.  In 1999, Jason signed a record deal with an independent record label, and released his debut album, “Follow Your Heart.”  Still living in Nashville, Jason has produced six more CD’s and is now the head of the Hendersonville, Tennessee chapter of Global Songwriters Connection. GSC is an organization that helps songwriters become more successful through education, support and networking. Jason is currently writing songs for his ninth album which he hopes to have recorded for release in 2016. He also continues to tour.

Art Demonstration Saturday!

PatBeardPat Beard will demonstrate weaving on the loom from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at 42 West ARTS Co-Op.  Pat began knitting at age 10 and has loved working with yarn and fabrics ever since. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the Cumberland Valley Craft Guild.  By combining interesting colors with textures and a touch of shiny yarn, Pat weaves fabric on old-fashioned looms. Although a number of pieces are woven from the same warp threads, each piece is different. After the weaving, each panel is washed before sewing on old industrial machines.  Traditional scarves and shawls are carefully hand finished.

Cormorants FancyFrom 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm, Gallery 50 will present a special Celtic Christmas program, featuring the music of Cormorant’s Fancy.  Since their 2003 beginning, Cormorant’s Fancy has played for concert series, festivals, historical events, libraries, park events, coffee houses, weddings, banquets, private parties, and worship services. They are favorites of the Music, Gettysburg! concert series, and have been featured at  the Heart of the Arts Festival, Northern Appalachian Folk Festival, Adams County Irish Festival, among others.  Members of the band recently played at festivals in Scotland and England, they are the house band at the Historic Fairfield Inn and frequent performers at Fitzgerald’s Shamrock Restaurant.  Cormorants Fancy is: Margaret Folkemer: lead and backing vocals, pennywhistle; Ricky Czar: percussion, backing vocals; Beth Folkemer: lead and backing vocals, guitar, dulcimer; Stephen Folkemer: lead and backing vocals, concertina, keyboards; Chuck Krepley: lead and backing vocals.

Denny Bingaman300BarReliefNature and Wildlife Slide Show With Music – From 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in 42 West ARTS Co-Op, Denny Bingaman will present a slide show of many of his nature and wildlife photographs taken over the past 25 years. The slide show will have music in the background with smooth transitions between each slide.  Denny is a native of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, who photographs birds and wildlife in the local area as well as other parts of the country. He started into photographing wildlife about 30 years ago, and has filed some 65,000 images of birds and other wildlife.  He also works with clay, making sculptures of wildlife using his photographs as reference.  The clay works are used to render rubber molds for casting cold cast bronze, copper, etc. After casting a patina is applied, and finished off with steel wool and waxed.

Sharon Rost is a musician, former music teacher in the Shippensburg School District, and Board Member of the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro.

Combined Church Choir rehearsal4:00 pm –Community Christmas Concert featuring a Combined Church Choir  – Trinity United Church of Christ, in the Sanctuary, 30 West North St.  This collaboration between AAGW/Destination ARTS! and the Waynesboro Fellowship of Churches will feature 70 singers and musicians from eight different churches in Waynesboro.  Led by Deb Hollen, they will perform joyous Christmas sounds as well as lead the audience in singing a few carols.  There will be a social gathering following the concert in Harbaugh Hall.  Deb Hollen is the choir director at Trinity, a former WASHS teacher, and has been actively involved in Destination ARTS! since its inception.

Over 80 new pieces of art are being featured.  The west window gallery theme is “Winter White”, and the east window gallery presents “It’s a Wonderful Still Life”.  The main gallery showcases “Fins, Feathers and Fur,” featuring artist, Carol Wilks and her animal paintings rendered in pastel. Several artists will be in the gallery and available to discuss their work.

Art Demonstration Saturday!

Barb Peshkin 2Barb Peshkin will demonstrate Calligraphy and Medieval Style Illumination in 42 West ARTS Co-Op from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, working in calligraphy and medieval style bound journals.  After working as an art teacher in the Tuscarora School District for 35 years, Barbara  retired and took a job at the Council for the Arts in Chambersburg, PA for three years. Since then she has taught children through the Arts Express Program sponsored by the Arts Council. She has also taught various art forms to adults at many venues, especially calligraphy. She is currently a member of the Cumberland Valley Craftsmen Guild, and is occasionally involved with the Chambersburg Art Alliance.  Her own art is mostly focusing on calligraphy and Medieval style illumination. She works usually with gouache paints. She also makes Medieval style leather bound journals. She likes to experiment with many art forms.

Jennifer Caldwell400Jennifer Caldwell, Sterling Silver Jewelry Artisan, will demonstrate making a silver pendant from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in 42 West ARTS Co-Op.  Jennifer began experimenting with, mending, and creating jewelry when she was in her early teens.  By bending horseshoe nails and pounding silver dimes she made rings for family and friends.  By braiding silver wire she made a bracelet for her mother. She moved from one craft to another as the years passed, including pottery, calligraphy, photography, stained glass and most recently sterling silver jewelry.  Her passion is transforming silver sheet metal and wire into new and interesting shapes and designs and adding gems and cabochons for color and affect.  She has taught herself her craft through trial and error, reading books and periodicals and investigating new techniques on the internet.  Her work includes but is not limited to pendants, chains, rings, earrings and bracelets.

WriteNowThe Writers Group – a part of the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro, will hold its monthly meeting at Gallery 20 East,  20 Main Street, Waynesboro, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  The theme for the December meeting will be “The Gifts That Keep on Giving” . After the initial ’round and round’ as members read  their contributions, they will then read any subject they’re currently working on – be it prose, poetry, memoirs or story-telling. DonnaandCrystalDonna Bingaman will be demonstrating painting a portrait in oil at 42 West ARTS from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.  A native of Waynesboro, PA, she is an impressionist, realist, and a blender of originality and tradition, winning many best of shows and numerous other awards for her portraits and other subjects from flowers to genre, including sculptures in bronze.  As a child Donna was fascinated by faces and started sketching from life at an early age.  At the age of 16 she started to paint pastel portraits of her neighbors and family.  For many years she painted pastel portraits by commissions.  She discovered oil paint and it has been her favorite medium for portraits & commissions ever since.  Donna is a graduate of the Washington School of Art and has studied with several regionally and nationally artists.  She enjoys painting people and strives to capture the unique personality of each.  Donna’s portraits have been exhibited at the Cumberland Valley and the Valley Art Show held at the Hagerstown Fine Art Museum, and she has been selected to have a one-woman show of her portraits at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

Leaman.  What makes you angry? Do you recognize the roots and triggers of your anger? How do you act when you’re angry? You can learn to express anger effectively and even use it to build positive relationships.  This book first guides adults through personal reflection activities to help them recognize their own unresolved conflicts before addressing the anger issues their children are experiencing, and  then offers simple, kid-friendly exercises—specific to common, everyday problems—that parents, teachers, and therapists can use to help children understand how to express anger in healthy, positive ways.  Grounded in cognitive-behavior psychology and enhanced with spiritual wisdom, this easy-to-use book illustrates practical ways to channel anger into constructive action no matter what challenges you or your child face.

The Nicodemus Center for Ceramic Studies will hold their 12th annual holiday pottery sale on Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm in the center’s Mont Alto pottery studio, room 008, General Studies building on the Penn State Mont Alto campus.  The sale will include a variety of wheel-thrown, slab, and hand-built stoneware.  Most items range in price from $10 to $30.

Art Demonstration Saturday!

 Deborah Woods42 West ARTS will introduce a new artist, Deborah Woods, who will demonstrate stuffing and sewing dolls and sculpting the faces from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.  Creator of Boggy Hollow Prims, Deborah was born and raised in the Greater Pittsburgh area, moving to Waynesboro in 2012. As a stay at home mother of four, she developed a taste for creating whimsical items after a visit to Ligonier, PA where she fell in love with a primitive doll.  Her many crafting endeavors include basket weaving, needlepoint and quilting. She is completely self-taught and enjoys trying new styles and techniques to bring out the whimsy in each project. Deborah’s pieces have been featured at the Twin Lakes Arts and Heritage Festival, the Westmoreland County Fair and numerous other Western Pennsylvania venues. Many of her pieces have placed during juried events.  Boggy Hollow Prims is a collection of primitive and folk art pieces with a touch of whimsy. All are handmade and grunged to give it that old battered look. Every pieces is individually crafted (taking several days to create) with no two exactly the same.

Singer-songwriter Brad Munn will bring his guitar and fiddle to Gallery 50 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm.    A member of the Lowdown Grasskickers and formerly with the Boro Boogie Pickers, Brad will perform a mix of bluegrass, country, classic rock, and original songs.

Patric Schlee will be creating original improvisational music on guitar, didgeridoo, flute and drums at 42 West ARTS Co-Op.  The public is invited to join in.

DonnaandCrystalDonna Bingaman will be demonstrating painting a portrait in oil at 42 West ARTS from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.  A native of Waynesboro, PA, she is an impressionist, realist, and a blender of originality and tradition, winning many best of shows and numerous other awards for her portraits and other subjects from flowers to genre, including sculptures in bronze.  As a child Donna was fascinated by faces and started sketching from life at an early age.  At the age of 16 she started to paint pastel portraits of her neighbors and family.  For many years she painted pastel portraits by commissions.  She discovered oil paint and it has been her favorite medium for portraits & commissions ever since.  Donna is a graduate of the Washington School of Art and has studied with several regionally and nationally artists.  She enjoys painting people and strives to capture the unique personality of each.  Donna’s portraits have been exhibited at the Cumberland Valley and the Valley Art Show held at the Hagerstown Fine Art Museum, and she has been selected to have a one-woman show of her portraits at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

Denny Bingaman300BarReliefDenny Bingaman will present a slide show from 1:00 pm  – 3:00 pm of many of his nature and wildlife photographs taken over the past 25 years.  The slide show will have music in the background with smooth transitions between each slide.   Denny is a native of Waynesboro, PA, who photographs birds and wildlife in the local area as well as other parts of the country. He started into photographing wildlife about 30 years ago, and has filed some 65,000 images of birds and other animals.

The Writers Group – a part of the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro, will hold its monthly meeting at Gallery 20 East,  20 Main Street, Waynesboro, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  The theme for the December meeting will be “The Gifts That Keep on Giving” . After the initial ’round and round’ as members read  their contributions, they will then read any subject they’re currently working on – be it prose, poetry, memoirs or story-telling. The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro

At the  Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery stained glass artist George V. Grillo is having his first solo exhibit. The Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery is located at 10 East Main Street.
